No one knows exactly how much influence Jerry Jones has over final selection of players being added to the roster, whether through the draft or free agency. However, two facts
must should always be acknowledged:
- Jerry Jones is the general manager
- Stephen Jones is the director of player personnel
Those two gentlemen are and have been the unchanging, ultimate decision-makers for roster and coaching infusion over the past three decades. Players and coaches bear responsibility for on-the-field performance and results. Yet, the organizational philosophy integrating players and coaches into a single goal for championship success falls on them, in particularly Jerry Jones.
Neither are yes men. Neither simply sign off on player or coaching evaluation from support staff and give their okay without reservation. They provide their input based upon their insights and then agree or disagree on players and coaches. That is their philosophy. And their particular philosophy became static a long time ago.
Sensible managerial self-consideration should have motivated Jerry and Stephen Jones to allow fresh perspective AT their own level long ago. Instead, they have adopted new perspective in piecemeal fashion from football knowledgeable individuals like Will McClay, a source of wisdom valued so much that his Vice-President of Player Personnel title remains omitted from the
franchise's official front office website page.
True change begins with modified comprehensive approach to getting things done. Why real change has not occurred at the top of the franchise's food chain is a truth that should have been strongly questioned, every day, by those with access to Jones and his number one DNA kid.
