As the replacement for BP. Stipulate now or next year. And give reasons and evidence to support your pick.

How about we turn the tables and you tell us why Rex Ryan or Ron Rivera (just going to give you 2 right now) would not be a better choice. You seem so content on calling everyone out who does not agree with you but you have yet to provide support for your argument.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Could it be that Rivera has interviewed for nearly a half dozen vacancies and lost out each and every time? Or could it be that Rex Ryan has yet to receive one single interview?

Heaven forbid people that actually do work for in the NFL for a living and know the game might actually have a firmer grasp on things than fans and the media.

Well its real simple. Right now I think BP is the best we can get- AT this time.
Now if we can get Cowher next year I would like that.

Because it's his post...let's keep this one to his subject...if you want to call him out, start a new post. I hate posts that don't keep to the subject. Makes wading through pages of garbage when you were anticipating another thing.

who are YOU or anyone else to decide that there is no one better at THIS time? If this was last year and we were naming names and I named Sean Payton what would you say? you would laugh in my face - what about Eric Mangini - you would probably still laugh in my face. Look how those 2 turned out. You - Me - and pretty mcuh the rest of us on this board are a far cry from being able to determine who is a better option than BP at this time. HOWEVER - because I DONT know who is a better option has no merit as to whether or not there is indeed a better option out there. I find it nearly IMPOSSIBLE that there is NOONE out there who can take what we have on this team and have them perform BETTER than parcells has. Bottom line is Parcells ISNT getting the job done - PERIOD.

heaven forbid passionate fans will talk about their team in such a manner! how dare they/we?!?! we should just sit around and watch brilliance in action and lob in an occasional golf clap and a BRAVO! and remain quiet.

That is why I said name names. I said Cowher NEXT year- but as of right now I see no one I want more. BY THE WAY- BELICEK and Cleveland. He was a real genius there, wasn't he?

He still won a playoff game in Cleveland.

As for my preference, I'd prefer to wait until next year when the available options are more appealing...

Cowher, Fisher, Smith(in that order)
college ranks...(Stoops, Meyer, Rodriguez)

whoopie doo!!! WON ONE playoff game? Are your standards THAT LOW?
TO me, the only SUCCESSFUL season is one that gives us a world championship.

My choice would be either Jeff Fisheer (assuming his contract is up after 2007) or Norm Chow.

One thing that i dont like about Cowher is that he is a Marty Shottenheimer desiple. Although he is a good coach, he got lucky with his Steelers last year (Cinci losing Palmer, Indy blowing the game last year). He, like Marty had multiple AFC Championship games at home (NE twice, Denver, San Diego).

We need a coach who coaches to win, not the type who coaches not to lose (ala Marty, Herm Edwards, Tony Dungy - common thread Marty deciples).

Stoops peaked several years ago and has not done much since.
Meyer- we shall see. Rodriqueez...eh.
Fisher- nah, nothing much there.
Smith- nope.
Cowher- good.

hindsight damn well better be 20/20.

*you feel* no one is better than parcells right now.

*i feel* a young and hungry coach would do wonders here. look at payton and what he's done in NO for an example.

it CAN happen but not if you're afraid to take the chance, or are sold on past glory replacing current production.

can parcells turn it around next year? sure - but what would be so differnt then than now in his own demenor on the sidelines and how that brought down the team? (in my opinion yes - his indecision and short timers attitude did hurt the team, understand you may feel differently but that's life) given what we've seen in 4 years i don't see a 5th year being "key" to just what we need.

we need:

1. heart and leadership - you can say players must provide that and i agree. they provide that and follow the lead from the coach. if not there they can only carry it / fake it so far.
2. direction. all this "i don't know, i need time" crap from parcells whether you like it or not effects having a solid gameplan and direction to follow through the course of the year.
3. adjustments. we need to adjust to what the teams do to us and how we attack them.
4. we just need to be hungry again. a parcells/cowher type coach isn't really "hungry" anymore - so i'll pass on those and take my chances on finding a payton out there who can make a difference because he's where he wants to be.

and he knows it.

Hey...I LOVE this logic too.

So, I'm supposed to know what is WRONG with my car before I bring it to the service station too, right?

If my engine sounds like a cement mixer, something is wrong. That much I know. Then I bring it to the experts, who fix it.

Ya see, this is why teams have GM's who are constantly on the look out for talented assistants..coaches rising in the college ranks...etc.

Anyway, this thread is the Zone's answer to car engines that sound like cement mixers.

by that standard you just shot yourself in the foot. parcells can't even win that ONE playoff game, much less a superbowl.

you can have faith all you want to - it's a great thing. but when you contradict yourself and your faith so blatantly, you own objectivity and credibility falls immensely.
