Hot names? So if they are so hot, why is Rivera now a four or five time bridesmaid? Why is Ryan getting nothing and even Brian Billick is amazed why not? Rivera could be getting more looks simply because he fits the Rooney Rule and not because he is actually a great candidate. And since Ryan isn't getting any interviews, what makes him "hot"? The fact John Clayton probably mentioned he is once?

This makes absolutely no sense at all. It is easier to exagerrate how dire our situation is and claim how we are a sinking ship than to actually look at the reality of our situation. We aren't dead in the water yet and making a change just to do it is an act of desperation without sound reasons why.

With out sound reasons why? Where have you been the last 4 years?

and gailey is getting a look in pittsburgh - so because someone is interviewing him now he's all of a sudden better than *anyone* NOT getting an interview.

you've got some black and white logic when it suits your purposes, but then i suppose we can all fall into that trap.

Parcells was passed up three times in his early years. Guess they should have put him out to pasture as well huh?

don't let one set of facts interfere with another perfectly good set of facts that tell another story.

What about the Itilians? Are they ruining the Cowboys too?

actually - it would depend on the noise.

Very good it would.

My wife thinks the car sounds like a cement mixer. I hear a grumbling because she used inexpensive gasoline.

the trouble with the analogy is that when an engine goes out the signs are clear and people don't normally fall in love with the past glory of an engine.

when a "coach goes out" it's all debateable to no end.

Who is in love with the past glory?

Keep it simple and to the point. If we missed the playoffs this past season, this type of reaction would be justified.

The simple issue is that we Cowboy fans are a spoiled bunch of children.

I want to stamp my little feet and hold my breath for a Super Bowl, but I am not about to suggest importing just anyone to take over thinking it is going to make everything better.

I don't have enough faith in either our management and especially these players to assume that making a rash coaching change is going to make the type of impact I want, especially with the options that currently exist.

juke, this is a rather different situation as regards cars versus NFL coaching, don't ya think?

Nope.

The entire premise that you are basing this on is, you're asking people who are not experts in a field to name a replacement. And if they can't, you're saying this coach is the best choice.

I'm saying, that's not a valid argument because it takes a lot less knowledge to know there IS a problem, than it does to FIX the problem.

I could have chosen dozens of other examples. You don't have to be a chef to know a lousy meal when you taste one.

You don't have to be a pilot to know the plane isn't being flown well.

In the business world, because you don't know how to FIX the profit margin, it doesn't mean you don't know that problems exist.

AND you don't have to name a replacement to know this guy isn't getting the job done.

34-32.

Two play off appearances in 4 years.

Both losses.

Best record was with the team he inherited.

That's a problem.
Period.

Actually, Chan Gailey getting looks in two places is exactly why making a change right now isn't prudent.

That's the quality that is out there right now.

The coaching free agency game is just like the players anymore.

There is no reason to dump your once-great starting QB just to do it when you could simply see if that plum you have your eyes on may actually be available in 2008.

Not arguing that we have a problem. The question is- what is the solution. And that is why I keep asking- name a name.

Only to us.

I hate to use the "starving children in Africa" analogy, but it fits.

It would be a problem to any franchise in the NFL with any sort of ambition.

Yo. :)

So basically, are you saying that right now, you're NOT satisfied but since you are concerned about the options, you'll in effect, settle for what we have?

honestly, I can deal with this logic.

I'd still roll the dice if I was Jerry...and bring in someone new.

But I can live with your logic.

Starving franchises like Cleveland, and shal we say HOUSTON, would love to have what we have right now. Detroit would like to have a winning season to, ya know.

Problem with rolling the dice is who is rolling the dice; I DO NOT TRUST JJ TO GET A GOOD REPLACEMENT!!!!!

and i'm not gonna hold onto 4 years of slightly above average as a factor to think the 5th will be any different.

Actually Rivera hasn't been interviewed that much. Last year, I think he had a few interviews and from what I remember reading, the word was that he wasn't quite ready.

This year, I think Rivera has fell victim to the fact that the Bears are still in the playoffs. I'm not sure how many interviews he's been able to make while they're making their run.

this the same man that got BP in the 1st place?

i think it is.

some people see a modicum of growth and improvement and fear of falling back keeps them from pushing forward.
