Time to put Witten in the Ring?

We won nothing meaningful besides two measly playoff games with him, Romo, and Ware. All three Hall of Fame players in my book. My argument is they don't deserve to be Ring of honor. If they wanted to be up there they should have prioritized winning a little bit more.
Again, it ludicrous to put that on one player or to choose t ignore that sometimes great players get mired in bad organizations. Again, by your standard all time greats like Barry Sanders don’t deserve accolades.

What did Witten ever win?

Jay Novacek ; 3× Super Bowl champion (XXVII, XXVIII, XXX); First-team All-Pro (1992); Second-team All-Pro (1991); 5× Pro Bowl (1991–1995); All-WAC (1984) ; 3× ...
Witten fanboys will dodge this

An individual player doesn’t win, a team wins that he is a member of. It’s not 1 vs 53.

Why wasn’t Novacek winning when he was a Cardinal? Maybe because the Cards weren’t as good a TEAM?

As for NFL honors, boy does your argument crash. Witten was All Pro twice as many times as Novacek (4 total - 2 times 1st team & 2 times 2nd team) and was Pro Bowl more than twice as many times as Novacek (11 times).

Novacek’s ALL WAC has nothing to do with the Dallas Cowboys or NFL, but if you want to include that, Witten was All SEC, which is a much bigger accomplishment than All WAC.

Witten is also in the Texas Sports HOF.

Don’t forget Jerry, he’s the face of the franchise. He should be the first one in..

So Witten goes in the HOF but some don't want him in the ROH? If that's the case I doubt any future players will get in. Most of them wasted their careers in Dallas playing for an incompetent owner. At least Ware got a title in Denver.

We just have a different conception about the criteria for the ROH.

On this point, you have me convinced. Dallas didn't win anything not just because Witten. But because the entire team sucked. I would say keep them all out of the ROH.

So just to make sure I understand your POV on ROH, sounds like you don't see it as a personal accomplishment recognition but rather a team recognition with a personal accomplishment qualifier.

If that is your view then it does a disservice to incredible players on weaker teams and an over valuation of very good players on incredible teams.

Witten is widely considered one of the top 5 TEs of all time and many have him closer to top 3....if that, based on all of his incrdible stats and accalids,
Isn't criteria to put someone in then I don't what is honestly

It is sports. The qualifier is Championships won. Anything less is just a participation trophy. What you want to do is honor a player for his heart.
In this case there are many worthy Cowboys to include into the ROH. How do you draw the line to determine who would be in or out?

Speaking of, well writing of, rings, which character would Jerry be in Tolkien, Martin, Wagner Rings?

Might as well put Dat Nguyen in there too.

I disagree, I want to honor Jason Witten for his 2 first team all pro, 11 time pro bowl, 13046 yards with an avg of 10.6ypc that puts him 2nd all time in yards and his 74 tds that are 5th all time among TEs

Those performance metrics are why I want him in the ROH, not for some fluffy "heart" reason. It made him one of the best of his Era and of all time.

I guess we do have a different concept, but would say mine aligns with the intent of the ROH, which is to honor individual players rather than the teams.

Anyway, there is at least some kind of "yardstick" by which to measure worthy players. I am not saying that I know what that is.

It is an interesting situation. There is a generation of fans who love a team that has not won a Championship in their lifetime who want to honor the heroes from their youth.
