Good news for Houston residents. Under an agreement between Time Warner and Comcast, Houston is in line to switch from TW to Comcast. Comcast, from what I can tell, carries the NFL Network.

Unfortunately the switch won't happen until the beginning of 07.

im in austin, this was like 4 years ago too tho, when i was living with my dad, i didnt have a good expirience with directv. But maybe it was out of line, is that easily fixed or what? do you have to physically play with it like in the commercials or do they do something with the computers and you just call? im intrigued now that you say that, i hate time warner!!!!!!

ps i also hate the NBA....i get my spurs games BLACKED OUT on league pass cuz im within 100 miles of SA!!! its the reason this town is starting to turn more mavs, its sickening!!

Comcast here in ABQ carries the NFL network but I only bother getting it starting the 1st week of TC until the end of the season. Sucks to be in the markets that went to TW and lost NFL network though

if there was a fix for that i would be on board with directv

Dude, going through that this very moment and I just got the damn thing yesterday! 30 minutes I've been sitting here trying to find a satellite signal. To top it off yesterday we get it installed, they tell us it's gonna cost another $50 for local channels and we won't get them for another week until they can get here and install a new satellite.

As far as headaches and problems go, Cable kills DTV in the area of saving you from them. In 4 years of having Time Warner didn't have half the problems we had just in setting up the service for DTV yesterday......and it still doesn't work right! Forget the fact that the only service trucks you see constantly being around are Dtv and SBC, meaning only one thing that there are LOTS of problems being had just in general. I swear, those 2 trucks live on our street and only a handful of people even have SAT. You never see Time Warner trucks out and about very much.

If it wasn't for the NFL Network and Ticket I would switch back in a heartbeat. But for the meanwhile I guess it does beat running both services during the football season.

And lets not forget Road Runner the ELITE cable modem service. I see DTV wants you to pay like $15-$20 more for a considerably lesser service. DTV IMO only wins with the NFL stuff. The rest is smoke 'n mirrors and I hate being at their mercy.

actually its the NFL that is at fault in my opinion. They want NFL network to be a regular channel. but time warner wants it on the sports pack. If the NFL got its way then the price of cable would go up and people who can care less about the NFL would be paying for it. I think the NFL should stop being so stubborn and just take it in the sportspack!(i already have it anyway, since a lot of spurs games are on it).
Time Warner is just trying to use NFL Network to force people to pay extra for some crap package that they realy don't want anyway. I watch very little sports on TV except for Football and the NBA both of which are mostly on regular Network TV. Now I gotta pay an extra $10 bucks a month for a package of channels that I don't want and won't watch except for the game on NFL Network. It's a rip-off.

Again, as I said in an earlier post, your dish is not aligned correctly. If you set it up yourself, you did not align it correctly. Check your signal strength, it should be in the low to mid 90's. If someone set it up for you, you should not let them leave until you acheive that signal strength. Once set up CORRECTLY, it will not go out. I hear people at work *****ing all the time after ice storms that cable is out for days, not with DTV, keeps on going.

Also, locals only cost $5/mo. Lay out all the channels you get with DTV vs. cable and see who wins. Compare apples to apples.

Roadruner I will not disagree with you on, I would not pay for that satellite high speed connection, way too high. . Just get DSL, it is cheaper and just as good as roadrunner, I personally know!!

The extra channels come in the form of more music/audio stations and more ppv channels. NFL Network and Ticket are the only upgrades over cable with any substance that I can see.

My signal has still not been found!

On the brightside, once a signal is finally found, I WILL BE SO MUCH CLOSER TO KICKOFF in SEPTEMBER!! :laugh1: :bang2: :banghead:

I've had DSL a couple of times and switched to cable after a short while both time. It is NOT just as fast as roadrunner. DSL is ok for message boards and the like but if you do any online gaming (and my family does) it sucks...Roadrunner will perform circles around DSL.

To each his own, I guess. My mom has roadrunner, I have DSL, when I go to her house, I see no difference between the 2. Also, DSL is up to 6MB now, which,I think, is higher than Raodrunner.

I do not do the online gaming though, so I will take your word for it.

Well see we're using an old satellite (professionally installed) that only has 1 cone on it or something and that's why we can't get the local channels at the moment, they coming from the other angle. So, we just got stuck buying a new satallite that would support it or something. The local channel service is actually included for free in the monthly package we picked. Though call me crazy but I think DTV should just be giving the satellites away for free. Cable doesn't charge any one anything to come out and lay down more cable if it's needed (to them it's all about equipping a home with their cable connections). If a box or line outside goes out, cable is right there to fix it. I needed some extra cables to set up my sat yesterday, went down to Time Warner and asked for some (didn't tell what they were for) but no question asked they handed me 10x 3 footers.

As far as the signal now, it did downpour pretty crazily last night and is just now starting to clear up.

Regardless of my complaints, until DTV's NFL monopoly is lifted I guess I'm stuck.

Of course things change quickly with technology and the situation may be different by now; I have been back on cable for over a year this time around. But I think I'll stick with it at least until AT&T (formerly SBC) gets fiber optics installed in my area. When we go fiber then I expect DSL to be the way to go.

Do you need to purchase the super fan pack in order to get games in HD?

Thanks
