Keeping Elliot means Dan Quinn will be our coach in 2024. I'm good with that. That's also why I doubt Elliot is on the team in 2023. I can't see MM going with Elliot knowing his job might be on the line...

If they release Zeke it will be designated as June 1st. Don’t even think there’s a question of that!
Man, I don't know. But I do hope so at this point. Honestly, from what I gather, I think Zeke is one of those players that parties too hard. And probably took years off his career doing so...

I am in agreement with that I could kind of tell when he came into the league he was going to be one of those guys that relied on his talent and didn't really take care of his body for longevity in the NFL.
He could be better but it would take commitment and it would have to be important to him.

He knew who he was That's why he forced Jerry's hand early and got paid because he was smart enough to know what he would evolve into and how fast it would happen.

It's not a personal thing running backs age faster than hunting dogs.
They are used hard and a similar fashion but live life to the max doing what they love.

That said we need to draft a good running back and get good value.

Cowboys Rumors: Plan for Tony Pollard, Ezekiel Elliott is the worst-case scenario

by Jerry Trotta2 minutes ago

Much like appointing Brian Schottenheimer as offensive coordinator after Kellen Moore was surprisingly let go, Dallas Cowboys fans believe they have a strong pulse on the team’s plans for the running back position.

With Tony Pollard headed for unrestricted free agency, and coming off high-ankle surgery, and Ezekiel Elliott having zero guaranteed money left on his contract after he performed like a mid-tier (at best) running back in 2022, the Cowboys face tough decisions with their two-headed backfield monster.

Ideally, Dallas pulls the plug on Elliott and saves $10.9 million in salary cap space in the process. Zeke has made $70 million in his career until this point, so nobody should feel sorry if the Cowboys decide to make him a cap casualty.

Pollard, on the other hand, is a much murkier situation to navigate. Most fans want him back — Jerry Jones included — but at the right price.

The Cowboys still have plenty of time to mull this over, but the latest buzz from Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline is quite literally the nightmare scenario fans envisioned once Dallas’ season ended at the hands of the 49ers.

Per Pauline, the Cowboys plan to restructure Elliott’s contract, while the expectation is Pollard will be given the franchise tag.

Shorter: Per Pauline, the Cowboys plan to restructure Elliott’s contract, while the expectation is Pollard will be given the franchise tag.

Half right, half moronic.

Zeke is pure progress stopper when we need to be developing RBs to replace Zeke this year, and Pollard the next.

RBs just don't last that long, and I heard recently that he has had more carries than any other RB since he came into the league.

Zeke has never been one of the "elusive" backs either. He takes hits and gives them.

Shockingly, Zeke is 48th *All Time* for rushing attempts. Most of the guys around him on the all time list took 10 years or more.

It should *not* be a shock that he's done.

Doubling down on wrong doesn't make a right.
Take a double shot and let Zeke walk.
Does anybody claim him?

If this team brings back zeke it's moronic- even on a reduced contract a rookie could replace his production at a fraction of the price

I really don’t care bout zekes contract it’s his lack of effectiveness that’s concerning.

I guess they need a back up for Tyler B lol

That would depend, wouldn't it? Teams only get two post June 1st cuts. Yet people keep bringing it up with every player that can possibly be cut. You can't designate it to everyone.

Per Pauline, the Cowboys plan to restructure Elliott’s contract, while the expectation is Pollard will be given the franchise tag.

-I was originally on the fence with Pollard, but looking around the league, teams just don't get rid of these types of specialty backs. Looking at Pollard's history, very little trend on his tires in this league and on the college level. We think we will finally have a OC to will get him involved in the team's passing game, which will make him even more valuable. Is he a bell cow rb, can he carry the load? We don't need him to, what we need is his big play abilities within this offense.

-Zeke is a whole another story. I believe the front office will eventually realize it doesn't make sense financially or cap wise to keep both. Unless Zeke take's an enormous pay cut, say under 3 million, makes zero sense to keep him. Will Zeke even play for that low level money here? He is a terrible fit for the WCO, might be better served becoming a fullback. Even at 3 million, that's too high for that type of player. My guess is, MM forces their hand and let's Zeke go.

Howie Roseman called Stephen and Jerry with his formal approval and encouragement to move on with these moves.

Honestly not sure I can tune in for another season of Fat Zeke even if he made the league minimum. If they restructure I will never be able to take this team seriously again.

If it’s done right I am ok with a short yardage hammer and great blocking RB along with Pollard if he is still explosive. And we will draft one also.

I have to admit, I am a little disturbed by the Zeke hate. I fully agree he's lost it, but I don't understand the vitriol towards him. I just don't get it. He's here one more year tops, be happy about what he did for us when he was prime.

I just don't get how he could have lost his burst at 23. That makes no sense to me. He must have just let himself go after getting paid. But he's a Cowboy, so I still like the dude. I hold more ill will towards Diggs for making business decisions during a divisional playoff game.
