LOL I am not a Zeke apologist but i dont think he packed it in.He just hit the running back wall that all RBs do he just hit it fast. His running style led to alot of contact which has taken a toll on his body. I blame Jerrys dumb arse for caving to his demands. You dont pay a RB that kind of cabbage. Contrary to what a few folks here tell you RBs are a dime a dozen and there are several RBs that could have done what Zeke did early in his pro career. We had the best line
He’s just getting a lot of miles on him. The heart and desire is still there, the body isnt
He carried the ball so much in college then came here and did the same. That’s why I wanted to extend him early or not at all. It’s time to move on but not because he’s quit, he’s just worn down

I don't see how this is the worst case scenario. To me it would be paying 12 million a year to Pollard on a long term deal, then keeping Zeke at his current salary and committing 27 million t the RB position.

Retaining Pollard is important in the short term, but I would draft another back in round 2 or 3 to take Zekes spot. If Zeke wants to return he's going to have to give the Cowboys 10+ million in savings and be open to a reserve role. I do worry about him being a progress stopper having not run for over a 100 yards in 30 games but he does carry some short yardage value and has had success punching in TDs. They could go with a 3 RB rotation.

Give Pollard 60% of snaps, have the rookie spell Pollard, and bring Zeke in for short yard situations.
Pollard FT strong yes but who knows... Zeke is not going to take less then they owe him if hes cut ie he can make 2 years 12mil by not being on the team so maybe he takes 2yr 13mil on new deal. player in his production range are making around 5-8 mil per season.

Heck if the Cowboys want to really go crazy cut both of them and use Malik and draft pick plus cheap Vet.,.I mean the narrative aro9nd here is don't pay rbs a second deal.. now what you all are backtracking like hypocrite who are zeke haters and that what applies...Polard the last 5 weeks pus payoffs also didn't do much. mostly he and zeke were not helped by the OC and an OL who were injured and being pieced together.

They could draft a couple RBs and get more production for much cheaper. All of the other teams do it.
I don't disagree with you in concept. Actual execution is much tougher. People just assume the RBs drafted will all work out the way you "expect". Another 3-4th round RB with the jukes of Pollard and a 4-5 rounder bruiser like Marion Barber.... Simple right!

In reality there are plenty of RB draft busts. We had our share of Tashard Choice, Joseph Randel etc.

I'd let them both go and draft RBs in the later rounds. Of course our "GMs" don't know how to build a team so I suspect they'll both be back.

I don't get why Jerry and company continue to treat and pay Zeke like he is still in his prime Ohio State and rookie days.

It is not 1992, putting that many resources into dual running backs is not wise. Add in how much Zeke's production has fallen off and it becomes downright moronic.

If I had to take a very honest guess….

I’d say that they wanted to keep him, but also know the reaction when they basically said so recently.

They probably want to retain him at what’s perceived as a rock bottom price because they want to save some face off the last round of negotiations, and feel like they beat the agent this time.

So I’d say him being here could go either way, with on the field play being among the very least of considerations as to why.

There's absolutely no reason why we shouldn't dump Zeke. Dude is 100% washed and barely worth vet minimum at this point. He provides nothing besides a wasted down when he touches the ball.

I know what Stephen said but no one can be that out of touch with reality. Even the Jone boys can't be that fn inept
We let Emmitt Smith go. Zeke is no Emmitt

The writer makes a lot of assumptions about the opinions of Cowboys fans. Maybe he should stop writing as if he is the voice of the Cowboys fandom and just state the obvious. That these are his opinions about the inner workings of the Cowboys, backed by anecdotal observations at most.
Is there anyone left that wants Zeke back on a restructure or at all?

Do you? I think comment about most Cowboys fans was spot on.

Start over, clean slate. But this front office doesn't care about economics or what's best for the team to win or their fans.
They will continue to be loyal to aging unproductive players and not be able to fill needs. We never get returns.
I completely agree. They need to start over a clean slate. They completely WASTED Pollards career here and he's getting older. Dont make the same mistake twice and give a back a big 2nd contract.

YOu can get great RB's cheap in the draft and FA.

Are you actually doing a real statistical survey or more anecdotal commenting to confirm your own bias?

In today's NFL, you don't put franchise tag money on a RB. So I'm not so sure we see Pollard return to this roster unless the FO does something I would advise against.

It's time to cut bait with Zeke. There is no scenario where I see Zeke and Tony return to the team next season. It will be either one or the other plus a drafted RB talent.

Yup. Pollards leg is torn up.

Why spend big UFA money on TonyP?

Zeke 10598 APYs. 80TDs.

Not 22 numbers, but nice enough.

So much #ZekeHate on here.

Haters are gonna be #ButtHurt level bravo when Zeke is back with a new deal.
If we get a rookie stud no problem on a team friendly deal for Zeke as a backup

400 rushes
1800 yds
22 TDS

Last two seasons

And that’s with limited rushes and missed games due to injuries.
