TNew says lots of blame to go around

Sure he sucked, but so did the entire defense. He doesn't man the 2 Safety spots that were abused, he isn't asked to rush the passer or stop the run, was he on our putrid line failing to protect adequately? No.

And he also receives some uncalled for hate, many forget he was a quality to good corner here for a period of time. It seems some fans are "what have you done for me lately?" I understand the business end of it and the team letting him go but the hate is unwarranted, same goes for Bradie James. Thanks for the years of hard work and professionalism from both them and Kosier, time in Dallas is up all the best in future endeavors.

Terence Newman has always gotten a free pass on this board, and I never quite understood it. I never really hated the guy, pretty much steered clear of any threads involving him. But the fact of the matter is, he never played up to his contract here, not even close. In the prime of his career, he may have been a slightly above average corner, I guess that's a matter of perspective. Never played the ball, never had much in the way of interceptions, always gave a big cushion to allow himself to get beat. Most of the time, he even managed to drop gift interceptions.

Then you have the recent decline, and it wasn't a slow decline either, it was a steep drop off a tall cliff. Couple that with the fact he wasn't that great to begin with, and there you go. Newman has been a glaring weakness in the Cowboys' secondary, and it goes back farther than last season.

So really, I'm just glad he's gone, and I don't need to hear excuses or what might have been. If anyone needs to move on, it's Newman. And the best way to do that is to just shut up.

I have to agree with TNew. Although it looks bad he says stuff like. But he for sure wasn't the only reason.

I've found that liberal use of the ignore list has greatly enhanced my enjoyment on this site. Helps me focus on those that know what they're talking about, and aren't just spewing out some cynical, negative agenda in order to make them feel better about themselves.

The fact that he is basically saying that it didn't matter if he was horrible because others were also and that we shouldn't even need the D to play well because of what the Pats did...

Oh really? I took it as him saying he didn't do his job and neither did the rest of this team.

We used the secondary as a scapegoat. If we had a stout secondary last year we still would've had a bad offensive line. We lost games by field goals. We lost games due to turnovers.

No one wants to hear what Newman has to say and I get it. But you are kidding yourself if you think Newman and the secondary were the sole reason why we were 8-8.

That's not all he was saying. He was saying he was bad but so were others. He was trying to justify his being horrible.

How did he justify it? He said he was bad and others were too. Did you want him to take sole credit? He wasn't the only one getting burnt deep. He wasn't the reason why we lost the Lions and Jets game. Blame goes all over.

So its his fault he never lived up to the contract Jerry Jones gave him? Is that the standard of being a good player? If you don't live up to your contract? He was a good player here. The only thing you can blame him for is signing the contract.

Newman didn't get worse when he signed his contract. He was the same player he was before he signed the contract so its not like he took the money and ran.

IMO, when healthy TNew was a very good CB until last year. I have no problem with what he said, he admitted poor play on his part. Even with his and everyone elses subpar performances they still had a shot to win the NFCE in the last week and didn't get it done.

No I didn't want him to take sole credit as it wasn't even close to all on him. I don't think he needed to bring up the others being bad too though since nobody was saying it was all him in the first place. And he really didn't need to bring up the pats being in the SB with a poor D because that sounds like he was trying to say the offense didn't do enough.

I guess I don't really understand why all the hate on Tnew..he had a decent career here...age catches up with all of us at some point

HaHa - you still wanna debate me on this finger pointer? top 10 worst Cowboy big contracts - terrible football player.

Softer then Deion Sanders.

I agree with you on the finger pointing part, he was an excellent cowboy until TO started ripping the team apart. From what I can tell he was still carrying the cancer from that season along with James and Spears. I cannot wait for the day Marcus Spears get his walking papers.

He did not point to any one player he said "we" and he is right. I think replacing him is going to help but this team needs to step up and make the plays when they count the most.

Not so much that he played badly as that he often played dumb football for a guy of his experience...and...at times, looked like he simply was making "business decisions" instead of tackling.

I do love his logic "Yes, we gave up 47 points today but ya know, if the offense would have scored 48..."

Oy...these guys are SO out of touch with reality as the rest of us know it.

Charmed lives they lead. It would be interesting to see just one of these guys actually have to survive in the real world.

He's right, the list of underachievers on this team was very long last season. Costa, Ball, Elam and our entire front seven excluding Ware and Lee were at major fault.

This.

Newman's mind seemed to never be in the game when it mattered the most. He seemed to take plays off, and was rather pouty at times. In other words, he wasn't an outspoken or overt bad character guy, but one whose negativism affected others via his attitude. He definitely had talent, but once it receded because of age, there was nothing to compensate for it.

I just read the thread where Newman said he didn't play well but there was enough blame to go around. I read most of the posts with the majority bashing Newman for the comment. Anyone who blames ONE player for a TEAM going 8-8 and not making the playoffs has no knowledge of how the game of football works and should ****! The guy admitted that he didn't play well. Everything he said was true. The whole defense played terrible this year with some bright moments from Ware and Lee; they could not come up with any stops when it was necessary. I didn't know that Newman was supposed to be Buggs Bunny out there!

Now...did Newman play bad? Yes for most of the season. Was it time for Newman to go? Perhaps. But this guy played his heart out for years for this team and was the best CB on the team from the time he was drafted. You can't blame him for the injuries...hell, it's football! Let you guys tell it, we should win the Super Bowl next year because the "problem" is no longer on the team. We will see. I can point out several players who didn't play up to standard which means the blame does go around.

Newman should not have been a starter for the past 3 years... And yes there is more blame to go around on the defense.
