Man, it's really hard to read your posts when Halle is staring at me so invitingly.

"staring at you so invitingly"?? - uh, no... I was taking photo so she was looking at ME ;)

If it were me, I wouldn't have put myself in this situation to begin with. I would be like Marion Barber. I'm assuming you would too.

Look, I'm trying to be honest here. I believe Werder does take a measure of personal satisfaction in breaking this story. But I think he would have done it anyway.

Nevertheless, missing in all this is T.O.'s contribution. He just can't shut his mouth.

You would think he would learn from his many conflicts with teammates and media at his other stops. But he ... just ... can't ... stop ... talking.

It's frustrating to watch this pattern develop, know what's coming and T.O. just jumps right in, feet first.

Forget ESPN's responsibility. It's going to cover the news as it sees fit. But it can't cover anything if T.O. would simply concentrate on football and not give them ANYTHING. Just learn how to give pat responses. It aint that hard.

Sheesh. :(

You are asking TO to not say anything ever... that aint happening. In this case though... what did TO say or start? nothing?

Werder ran with anonymous like it was fact. TO did NOT initiate this one.

As far as I go... I am somewhat reserved... but if you keep slamming and slandering me... I will have to swing a few times.... more than anything its human nature.... enough is enough and you figh back. Pretty normal to me.

I have a few wide-scoping opinions here...

1. I'm glad, in a weird sense, to see an us-versus-them mentality fester. It's nice to see a media member/network the target of T.O.'s venom and not, possibly, a teammate. I've long yearned this season (my post history reflects it) to see us develop into a team that says screw you to the world and bonds together like the Giants did last year. We'll see if this is the start of that. I'm not necessarily convinced yet.

2. I think it's clear Werder is in T.O.'s head. He's clearly emotionally frazzled by this. Interestingly, though, it seems like he's more hurt than pissed. Look at his facial expressions, the tone in his voice. He seems downright hurt. I'm not sure I've heard him ever sound like he did after tonight. I think he's hurt that someone would snitch from within the organization, as it seems like he likes being here, and is using Werder as his outlet to tee off on. Still, even in calling him a liar, this war of T.O.'s just sounds/looks/feels different.

3. I think you're right that Werder is loving this. To be standing there in the press room and hearing his name thrown around, he's eating up every minute. I think T.O. thinks he can ruin Werder's credibility, but Owens has a history that almost makes Werder the sympathetic figure here for the masses. It's a weird situation.

Plus, as you mentioned, it's rare for media members to get their names mentioned like that. His story is everywhere, and T.O. is keeping it alive on every network. His name's on NBC, NFL Network -- everywhere.

The only way he's worried right now is if he was lying through his teeth and in talking with ESPN execs over the next few days about how to attack this story next, he has to reveal that he made the whole thing up and had no sources. Which, frankly, I think is a ridiculous assumption. Werder likes to stir up stuff, but he has a long, trustworthy history that suggests he's not some yellow journalist lying through his mustache.

4. I still have long-term fears over what this mess will do to us. Historically, T.O. is a person who, once someone turns on him, he never forgives and forgets. Eventually, it will get out who the source was for this story and others. And it's scary to think it could be Witten, or someone prominent -- maybe even Garrett? -- that could cause T.O. to go psycho.

And bag on the guy all we want, but he's an essential part of this team and offense.

This is where I don't buy the cancer metaphor entirely. A cancer, if I'm not mistaken, at its core is not a needed part of your body. It's an unwanted growth or such that you want to cut off and hope it hasn't infiltrated everywhere else.

I get the infiltrating comparison, but T.O.'s more like a lung or a leg that, for some reason, you know will go bad one day. But you don't really want to just cut it off and try living without a lung or a leg. Yet you might not be able to survive by keeping it as it is. So what do you do?

What an intelligent, balanced and thoughtful post.

I didn't say TO should say nothing. I said he shouldn't give them anything other than pat answers.

Werder ran with anonymous like it was fact. TO did NOT initiate this one.

T.O.'s reputation initiated this one. It's true, T.O. didn't go to the press to complain that Witten gets more passes than he. But he has said publicly that he needs to get the ball more. This story feeds into that public comment.

Second, ESPN is in the business of sports news and sports analysis. Analysis often involves the interpretation of fact. And team emotion and team unity in the locker room are as much a part of a team's ability to perform on the field as the X's and O's. That's why you have all these former NFL commentators talking about the off-field aspect of the game.

As for the anonymous story, maybe it wasn't accurate in all points. Maybe "jealous" was the wrong word. But I can't find where it was inaccurate in substance.

Was there a divide on the team? Yes.
Did the receivers have a meeting with Garrett to discuss getting the ball more? Yes.
Has T.O. expressed concerns about not getting the ball more? Yes.
Did T. Newman verify this publicly? Yes.

People are getting upset over minor points when the substance of Werder's report is true and has been verified by the players and other media sources.

I understand that. But I don't see you as the kind of guy who would put himself in the same situation. You appear level-headed, based on my limited observation here. I really don't think you would be in the same situation if you were T.O.
But that's my opinion of you.

ESPN did show it last night because when they cameback out of the video the guy on the set, with Dilfer, immediately said "ESPN stands behind it's story".

why does it matter that jerry is on the sideline to celebrate a must needed victory?
I'm sick of hearing that crap too. As a fan and you owned the team, wouldn't you frequent the sidelines?
? I don't always agree with JJ but this I love about him. At least you know as a fan, he wants it as bad.

Did you see the smirk from TO when Witten said he wasn't sure how he got dragged in the middle of it.

That was funny.

He played dumb (not a stretch) and lied through his teeth about "team harmony." But what else is new? Evidently, a "W" means none of this ever happened. Neat trick.

how do you know he lied?
