The Eagles have to trade or release Terrell Owens by Tuesday.
A trade looks highly unlikely at this point. The Chiefs and Cowboys look like the two favorites to take him on. The Broncos may not have the cap room.

a team may have already told the Eagles they will trade for him if they (new team) doesnt have to pay the bonus...

The only thing that would argue against that strategy is Lurie is notoriously cheap. Still, it would work out well for a deal between the Broncos and Eagles. Eagles got lots of cap space to absorb the cap hit and the Broncos have an extra first rounder so they probably aren't too worried about giving up a first-day pick for a potential difference-maker.

Not with the new "TO rule" in the new CBA. They could only do that for four games.

They could always cut TO after June 1!!!!!!!!

We went into last 2 seasons with $5M unspent - Lurie is a Bazillionaire and with $25M in cap (including TO) - he's going to be hardpressed to find enough player to spend it all on anyway.

Think outside the box guys!

I think you misunderstand what their motivation might be...its a longshot, but I heard it discussed on the radio with someone (I think from TSN)

the motivation for the Eagles to PAY the 5 million would be that perhaps a team (Chiefs, Broncos perhaps) have told the Eagles "yeah we want him, we'll give you something (say a 3rd rd pick, maybe a 2nd) but we dont want to tarde for his current contract...if you eat the bonus, we will make the deal"

that way the Eagles 1) get something for him and 2) he cant go to Dallas

its all specualtion, but it is a possibility

David

cant owens refuse the contract that say the chiefs or broncos offer tho?

Its ********.

$5M dollars to get what is probably a 6th or 7th round pick, just so he doesn't go to Dallas who you only play twice in a season?

Any owner who did that should have his head examined.

the Eagles have to pay him the bonus to keep him, after paying him the bonus they could then trade him, keep him or just release him...there isnt much he can do about it

I guess theoretically he could tell everyone involved "I wont go there...I will holdout...I will repeat the Philyl fiasco etc etc" and try to force his release, but I seriously doubt he'd do that if he got his money and his destination were a good team like Denver or KC

If a team made that offer, then the eagles would have already paid him and traded him. There is nothing keeping them from paying before the due date.

Separate Bonus and Cap guys. Eagles are already under Cap with TO money accounted for. They can pay him then retain his rights right up to summer. Then if push comes to shove they cut him after 6-2 and free up cap and you have if nothing else really screwed TO over in Cap derby going on today.

Lurie is a bazillionaire.
To is a jerk that screwed with him.
TO might get punched tomorrow.

Star wide receiver Terrell Owens, who was kicked off the Eagles in November, will be released or traded before he's due to receive a $5 million roster bonus on Wednesday.
