The stats are close. I think the fact that Lynch played for such a great defense in 2002 gave him an edge.
If Woodson had been in the that very same Tampa 2 defense ... would Woody be in the Hall of Fame now ?

Probably a pretty good chance he would be in. The best defense Woody played for with the Cowboys was during the 92 season when our defense was ranked number one, and that was his rookie year. He really didn’t do a whole lot his first two seasons. The best teams he played for were known for the triplets. The player that got the most pub on the defense was Charles Haley, then Deion Sanders, when he came along.

That’s not what happened to Roy. Roy was damn good in college as well.
Woodson did all the heavy lifting in coverage which is what bit him on the *** in the end. Remember Parcell's "biscuit away from a LB" quip? Parcells wasn't kidding, his weight was an issue.

Lynch had more sacks, INT’s and forced fumbles than Woodson. Plus he played for one of the top 10 great greatest defenses in NFL history the 2002 Bucs.
The numbers were almost the same. 2 more INTs and/or TFL's is not significant for a career.

Yeah but Woody is a Cowboys, and we all know Cowboys come up short on a Cowboys Board. I mean the fact that Woody is a 5 x Pro Bowler, 3 x All Pro 3 x Super Bowl Champ means nothing Lynch had a wayyyy

Better Career.(Sarcasm)

Come on man it's ok to give a Cowboys the edge, especially when it's accurate

Couchcoach nailed it.
Woody is a victim of playing with too many stars, when the team was winning.

They both deserve HOF honors. Woody is one of my all time favorites. I admire the way he went about things in a 'walk softly and carry a big stick' kinda way.

It's telling that the position has pretty much been a weak link, since he left.

There’s no bias against the Cowboys in the Hall of Fame, or they wouldn’t have as many players enshrined. It’s tough getting into the Hall of Fame as a safety. Lynch and Woody’s numbers were very similar, but playing for one of the all-time great defenses got Lynch in. It took a while just to get Woody in the ROH and he was one of Jerry’s players.

I disagree. Box safeties who didn’t play coverage well took a hit when the league went away from running and started passing.

But even if he was a biscuit away what are blaming Woody for not keeping him in shape?

According to Pro Football Reference, he has three. As a teacher/professor, I never allowed a Wiki source.
Click here for definition and lists of all-pro player designation sources Wikipedia uses, which are/were:
  • Associated Press (AP)
  • The Sporting News (SN)
  • Pro Football Writers Association
  • Newspaper Enterprise Association (defunct)
  • United Press International (defunct)
Wikipedia counts Darren Woodson's three AP and one SN seasons, for a total of four all-pro selections. Contrastly, Pro Football Reference definition of all-pro can be reviewed at this link, which states:

1st team all-pro - On the player and team pages, the words "all-pro" now mean first-team all-pro, according to the Associated Press all-pro team from 1940--present or the UPI team from 1931--1939.
Pro Football Reference does not count SN seasons, so the site applies the three AP seasons only to Woodson. Even so, the site documents ALL selections from every all-pro appointing sources. The site lists every Woodson all-pro designation midway on his webpage (click here).

I steer away from Wikipedia also. That said, I have used Pro Football Reference for years. The site is a stickler for its data and how it should be reviewed. You were not wrong. You did not dig deep enough. Hope that helps.

Pro Football Reference automatically defers to Associate Press all-pros only when you look at a player's profile but if you search PFR for the 1998 all pro team Woodson has a 1st team selection for The Sporting News (Canton recognized AP, PFWA, and SN selections)

It's confusing that Canton recognizes all 3 because someone like Aaron Donald who had a down year last year technically got selected to the SN all pro team last year so he technically in Cantons eyes continued his all pro streak even though it wasn't the AP
Oops. Someone else beat me to it, lol.

Hall of Fame wideout Terrell Owens can't believe former NFL safety Darren Woodson hasn't yet been enshrined in Canton.

"I'm thinking about a guy like Darren Woodson that's not in the Hall of Fame, but John Lynch is," Owens said to Hall of Fame receiver Andre Reed on Fubo Sports' Getcha Popcorn Ready (h/t Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk). "How in the hell do you quantify that?"

“When I got with the Niners, like I said, I didn’t know anything about no rivalry with the Cowboys and the Niners, I knew nothing about that,” Owens told Reed. “But when it comes to the game plan [it was about where is Woodson]? Granted John Lynch did some great things here and there, but I’m not looking for John [on the field]. I wasn’t. But when I played from my rookie year on, and I played against the Cowboys, I had to identify [where Woodson was]. Just because a guy starts on a defense and he is the No. 1 guy back there in the secondary for that defense, for me overall in totality, that doesn’t mean he’s impacting what I’m going to be doing. Yeah, he has to be accounted for that day because you’re game planning, but I wasn’t scared of No. 47 (Lynch]. And when I was with the Eagles and he was with Denver at the time [shrugs].”

Woodson was a first-time finalist this year. Then less than 21% or more of the above individuals did not select him for enshrinement. That is the answer for why he is not in the Hall for 2023.

The real question, that should be posed to those particular individuals, is why they did not vote for his induction. I really wish the voting process was open to the public. That will never happen but it would be appreciated if their fellow non-Board of Selectors media peers who ask those on the board why ex-players do not make the cut. Exact reasons are not even necessary. Non-specific generalizations can offer clues instead.

lol @ the site filter censoring Ira Kaufman's affiliation.
