If he has 80% of the numbers he had last year over the next 2 years he will be #3 in TDs (or #2); probably #5 in receptions; around #8 or so in yds.
That is HOF numbers.

There is a sadistic side of me that wants to see TO get in. On the day where Owens is selected to go into the HOF and Art Monk once again misses the cut, me thinks extremeskins might be a fun place to visit.

T.O. will probably never reach the mark set by Rice but the good thing is that T.O. was actually taken under Rice's wing. Jerry taught T.O. everything he knows and knowing that he adheres to most of the principles laid out for him by Rice, I'm sure he can be a very productive wr for another 5 - 8 yrs. I doubt you'll find another wr in the league in better shape.

What's even better is that Sam Hurd is now being tutored by T.O. If we can get Crayton and Stanback to tag along we'll be cookin' with gas!

Agreed.

He's a great reciever, probably a HOF player. Not a first ballot but I think he will definitely get in.

He will be remembered for all those catches he took to the house or for a huge chunk of yards when it was only a five yard curl route.

I can't think of many other recievers who could throw a cornerback on his "aihse" when they try to run press or bump and run coverages. Electrifying to watch.

I know off the field issues and the like aren't supposed to get involved in voting but we know that is bull-ish. We are humans and our feelings are going to get in the way. If he kept his mouth shut he would have been voted in a first-balloter.

No way is he the best reciever ever. Get off of that horse.

He is not the best of his generation. That would make it difficult to be the best ever. He is good and is a HOFer in my opinion. Just not best ever.

Terrell Owens, WR, Dallas Cowboys
Decision: On the bubble.
Some might be surprised to see him here, but he's 17th all time in receptions with 801 and he's 16th in yards receiving with 11,715 yards. With a good season, he can move into the top-10 in both categories. Forget the attitude, he's had a heck of a career.
If that gets Owens into the HoF then Bledsoe should be a cinch to make it with all of his top ten numbers. Personally I wouldn't put either one in...but Owens is not done yet so we will see.

If he retired today, it would be far from a done deal. There are literally dozens of 5-time Pro Bowlers who are not in the HOF, some of them with rings.

Also, TO doesn't seem too worried about the status of his own popularity among players and coaches, so he may have to do something about that soon. Pro Bowl appearances are a much bigger consideration when it comes to getting voted into the HOF than all-time rankings are. (see Art Monk, Henry Ellard, Irving Fryar).

Even if he somehow catches up to Marvin Harrison for 2nd all-time TD receptions, detractors will say (unfairly) things like, "most of those TD's were in garbage time." If he ends up 3rd behind Harrison, and doesn't go to any more Pro Bowls or win a SB, he will be sweating it out with the above-mentioned receivers (despite being superior to them) while Harrison is getting inducted.

And then his own popularity might start to mean something to him.

Judging who gets into the HOF for recievers is going to be hard.

Andre Reed was one of the best recivers of the 90's and he has all-time numbers... he will still be have an uphill battle to get in.

I hate art Monk and his numbers year by year are hardly mind-blowing,but he deserves to be in.

I think Art Monk and players like him (and I bunch Rod Smith in this group) who aren't really game-breakers or the most fun to watch will be left out of Hall, which speaks to even the media and it's reporters who succumb to going for the most electrifying.

T.O.'s numbers are great but with team passing more than they ever have, they may look pedestrian comparatively in a decade or more, which is why it is hard to judge who gets in or not.

Charlie Joiner was the all-time receptions leader when he retired. Ten years later, he went into the HOF while he was still 3rd all-time. After this season Joiner won't even be in the top 20. Now any receiver who's been to 3 Pro Bowls (like Joiner) and finishes in the top 30 or so in receptions has an argument.

Maybe the voters realize this (although I may be giving them too much credit here), and that's why it's hard for guys like Monk (who has other credentials besides his career totals) to get in now. I think they're counting Pro Bowls, which is probably a good measuring stick because it evens the playing field for players from different eras.
