In 2007 we barely lost to the Super Bowl champions in the playoffs due to a couple bonehead/unlucky plays. I'm pretty sure being competitive against the Super Bowl champions and narrowly losing is about as predictive as 13-3 can get. Being 13-3 doesn't guarantee you anything.

I'm sure the fans, Jerry and the players had higher aspirations than to be merely "competitive" against a team we throttled twice. No one in their right mind considers that a "consolation prize." But thank you for once again singling out my post for special scrutiny and (of course) disagreeing with me. Maybe one day I'll finally get one of these right.

In all fairness the Cowboys were struggling earlier this year.

No, in fact, that's not fair. They struggled in one game. The Giants game was a fluke where every lucky bounce went their way. But you're the one who has been posting post after post after post, getting owned and well... now you're....

When did I get owned? The Cowboys started off slow, but were able to pick it up. I don't really see how that's debateable.

You completely missed the point of my post. It's not about merely wanting to be competitive. It's about what being 13-3 and "starting out strong" predicts. What it predicts is being competitive against a Super Bowl champion-caliber team. That's all it can predict. It can't predict that you'll blow that team out. It can't predict that you'll beat that team every time you play them. You say that our record wasn't predictive of our outcome that year. This implies that the only outcome that would have aligned with what our record predicted would have been beating the Super Bowl champions. Very clearly, merely being 13-3 does not guarantee a win. It doesn't even necessarily predict a win. It does, however, predict being competitive in a game against said Super Bowl champion. Consolation prizes have nothing to do with anything I said.

If you can please keep the personal insults to a minimum, it'd be much appreciated.

TYIA.

To those of you that see this thread as me backpedaling I laugh in your collective faces. Once again, some level of common sense should enter into the equation. Super Bowls aren't won after 8 weeks. However, I am encouraged by the progress the team has made. I, personally, don't care if someone pedals backwards, forwards, or sideways. As long as they reach the finish line they're ok in my book.

Um, that loss was historically bad. Dallas was the first number one seed in the NFC to lose in the divisional round since 1990. 13-3 entitles us to more than a "just glad to be there" attitude. Is your point that the playoffs are "unpredictable" and that "anything can happen"? No ****. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me for 12 years running, shame on all of us.

If you can please keep the personal insults to a minimum, it'd be much appreciated.

I have no idea what you're talking about. FYI, the mods are now aware of your stalking tendencies, and this thread will be added to the voluminous list.

I'm just curious what one needs to do to join the realist club.

I predicted before the season we'd be a 9-7 or 10-6 season.

That probably puts me in the extreme homer category according to these self proclaimed realists.
You need to have a "broader perspective."

Historically bad? We barely lost. A few things break go our way and it's a win.

And again, you almost completely missed the point. It has nothing to do with being "glad to be there." It has nothing to do with "anything can happen." It has to do with being competitive against the best. We were competitive against the best. That's all a 13-3 team can expect. They can't expect any more. They can't expect any less. That's what being 13-3 predicts. It predicts being competitive with the best. In that sense, our 13-3 was predictive of our result.

Thanks for the heads up, but I'll reply to anyone I please. If you don't like it, you can put me on ignore. But as long as you post things I disagree with, I'll reply in a calm, non-insulting manner.

Please, do keep the conversation on topic and do not inject whatever personal problems you have into the thread.

Thanks again.

The loss itself, not the final score. But I'm sure you already knew that.

Why am I sensing echoes of "the bye week is as good as a win"? Or Wade's infamous "elite eight" comment? That kind of crap might fly in Detroit, but not Dallas. The fact that we were merely "competitive" is of no solace to anyone with two brain cells to rub together.

No dice. When you deliberately shadow the same person from thread to thread and shower them with nothing but negative attention day after day, that is de facto stalking. Believe it or not, I have rights around here too. The next time you pick a fight in an unsolicited/unprovoked manner, it will be flagged. Toodles.

I'm sorry, I thought this conversation was about the game and how we played in the game. Of course, if you want to change the topic because you feel you've lost the argument, so be it. I won't stop you.

I'm not sure why you're sensing these things as I'm very clearly telling you they're not at all what I'm arguing. I'm arguing what I think a 13-3 record predicts. No one should be happy with the loss. No one was. But to say that a 13-3 "predicts" nothing but a win against a Super Bowl champion team is precisely what I'm arguing is absurd.

And again, I will reply to you in any thread I choose. When I choose. It may hurt your feelings that people disagree with you on a consistent basis, but that's life. You can either IGNORE it. Or accept it.

And by the way, you have no "rights" here. Neither do I. I'm not sure what CSI TV show or the like has given you the false assumption that you have any sort of "right" to post or not to be replied to on an internet message board, but it ain't so. Sorry.

Please leave the lawyering to the lawyers. And please leave your personal insults off the board.

Sounds like I have the "right" not to be stalked by *******s spoiling for a fight. You know, guys who always throw the first punch. Guys who go out of their way to isolate my posts--no matter how benign or reasonable--and then pour on the venom for venom's sake. Does this sound like anyone you know? Either all of my posts in a myriad of different threads are wrong and provocative (yeah, right), or you're just a trouble-seeking instigator who can't help himself. My money's on the latter.

You don't have the right not to be stalked. Stalking is simply prohibited. There's a difference.

And nothing I've done or will do can or will be construed as stalking. It's all in your head. But what do I know? I'm simply a "part of the problem" (your venomous words) because I'm a season ticket-holder.

Also, kudos for giving up on the topic of our football conversation altogether and sticking SOLELY with the personal insults. Cursing to boot. Tsk. Tsk. Both are rule violations:

* Personal attacks or insults directed at other members of this site are not allowed

Legalese at its most unctuous. I doubt the mods will buy your self-serving distinction.

Right. You never throw the first punch in thread after thread, baiting me into pointless arguments. I must have you confused with some other no-lifer. I have no idea why you made this personal, but it's got to stop.

Another thread where you threw the first punch. See what happens when you don't play nice? When ambushed, people like me tend to defend themselves. Crazy, no?

Um, I was trying my best to ignore you, but you wouldn't let me. Again. If you don't want insults, then modify your actions accordingly. BTW, a mod has promised to monitor your behavior present and future, so let that rattle around your noggin for the rest of the evening.

I've found that people tend to use the term "legalese" when they lack an understanding of a particular term or concept.

Right. You never throw the first punch in thread after thread, baiting me into pointless arguments. I must have you confused with some other no-lifer. I have no idea why you made this personal, but it's got to stop.
If throwing the first punch is pointing out the fallacies of your arguments, then guilty as charged. I do not know anything about you personally. I do not insult you personally. I argue against the positions that you hold. I argue against the beliefs you hold. If you take that personally, that's your problem, not mine.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy that a "Cowboys fan" would think that a fellow Cowboys fan is "part of the problem" because he happens to be lucky enough to afford season tickets.

Crazy, indeed.

You can ignore me by placing me on ignore. And I would hope the mods are monitoring my posts regardless of your pleas for help. It's part of their job description -- you know, to monitor the posters on the board.

Thank you for keeping THIS particular post free of profanity. Now if only we can get you to stop insulting me personally, we'll be 2 for 2.

That's funny. I've found that people tend to rely on spin and equivocation when they've been caught violating forum guidelines.

Oh, I see. You're not a stalker; I just happened to be wrong each and every time (what are the odds?!), and you took it upon yourself to set me straight as some sort of public service. Is that the story you're going with, because I really need the laugh.

Conscience bothering you or something? Do Jerry enablers even have one? If you don't like insults, then stop throwing hay-makers. Not that difficult.

What, and have you sniping at me behind my back? No, you will be ignoring my posts from now on, just as I ignored your fatuous Ken Hamlin thread last night. Consider yourself on notice.

Thank you for keeping THIS particular post free of profanity. Now if only we can get you to stop insulting me personally, we'll be 2 for 2.
