Question: Even if Dez signs and is on the field, is Terrance Williams an adequate #2 receiver? He still seems to disappear at times.

Bob Sturm: I think Williams is adequate. I wouldn’t get carried away on how great he is or where he rates as a #2 league wide, but the Cowboys have an ensemble cast that utilizes the TE as the #2 sometimes, the slot WR, and Williams on the go routes. I think he fills this spot well, but when it is time to pay him, the Cowboys will have to ask the prices and make a careful decision.

If he was contract was up I would be okay with him leaving and us find a replacement...

BUT he still has years left on his deal and I am not concerned at all with an extension for him...

I mean at least make a pro bowl..

It's early yet in his career. I believe he's still developing. T-Will's full story is yet to be told. This year will be and might rightfully be considered a pivotal one in his career. I honestly believe a true picture of his value will be seen in 2015. His performance is overdue to match his commitment by his own admission. If his commitment enchances his performance this year, we just might get to see the real Terrance Williams assert his presence this season. If what he's saying is nothing more than noise, he'll continue being what he's already been. His future will depend entirely upon him to deliver what he claims he can be. Like I said earlier, I think his full story is yet to be told. Let's not give up on him just yet. Sometimes, it takes some longer than others to see themselves as they truly are. Hopefully, that's actually the case with him.

As of now, TWill is replaceable. I doubt that he turns into a must sign in a couple of years but could be wrong.

Its why I kinda dont want him to " step up". If he remains a 40 catch 600 yard guy we may be able to sign him for 4 million per. Which would be very nice.

If he hit 60-900 this year or next, he is gonna be well out of our range

The #2 WR in this offense is never going to get 60 catches
That said he has played better than many fans think so far considering the times he has been targeted
I think the light has really came on and he is starting to really get it as to the offense
He seems to have learned that your assignment is just as important when you aren't the target
We have two years to decide what to do with him but most likely he won't get a second contract for two reasons. As stated he lights it up and becomes too expensive. Two, he doesn't continue to improve and he becomes replaceable
I personally think he gets way to big an offer but time will tell

Are people expecting him to come into the league as a beast? Last season was only his 2nd and he was only a 3rd round pick. Did we forget Dez Bryant didn't see 1,000 yards until his 3rd season either? He didn't come into the league beating and he was a 1st round pick. I think Williams is gonna have his breakout year this season

Biggest position where college football turns out excess talent is WR. Cowboys signed three with draftable grades as UDFAs this year. On the worry list this should rank somewhere around 100.

Great point
Most likely the #2 WR is a position you just keep replacing as they hit free agency
There are only so many spots on the roster you can have guys in their second contract
That's why Harris is gone and I think if you look at everything Harris did he was just as valuable as the 2 is ever going to be in this offense
But we have a long time before we have to deal with the issue

Depends on the progress he makes, but I'd like the Cowboys to see what they have in Devin Street. You're about to pay Dez and you've paid Cole Beasley (even if modestly), at a certain point you can't keep piling on the investments to the WR position.
