so, why would anyone take steroids ONCE? that makes even less sense to me.
First, I'm not defending steroid use.
Second, remember Merriman offered an alibi. He said he wasn't taking steroids.
Do I believe him? No.
But with respect to this issue, the only incident we have or the media has that they can comment on is this one-time infraction.
My comparison had to do with TO's running infractions. Even though they are less severe than taking steroids, they're running infractions nevertheless. And they involve more than one person's abuse of his own body. TO's infractions involve other players and his own teammates as well as himself.
That's why I said Merriman's situation is a one-time situation. It could develop into a running situation like TOs. Well, actually if he does it too often he'll be out of the league. And there won't be any need to talk about him.
TO, to his credit, hasn't done anything against the substance abuse policy. His are infractions that just keep people talking and keep him in the media spotlight.
getting caught once isn't the same as only doing it once, hence i doubt "doing" is simply a "one time thing".
But whether you doubt it is a different issue than whether it gets reported.
The media can only talk about what has been reported. I'm sure TO has done many things that haven't been reported either in terms of his relationship with other players. How do we know TO never spit on other players, especially if as the TO minimizers say that other players wouldn't whine to the press about being spat upon?
TO's problem is that many of his "infractions" are reported, and they are because he makes himself available to the media and hasn't learned to censor himself.
