I guess we can add the word "bargain" to the accolades for Tom Landry?

By contrast, if Garrett was paid bi-monthly, his gross would have been 250,000 per check. He could say "hey, I was 100 times the coach that Tom Landry was". Then he could go into the coaches' protection program.

Wow -- that's quite a drastic difference from what it'd be today -- of course, the buck went farther back then than it does now!

If that was a single week check, or even a two week check, it's big money for 1966.

I worked for UPS back in 1985. Their brown truck drivers made 14 an hour. Their semi truck drivers made 16 an hour. That was ridiculous good money back then. They now make more than double that.

Not bad at all. Landry's check was over twice what I made in a month back then, as a printer for the San Antonio Light newspaper.

I worked for UPS around that time too. We made around 12 an hour on the preload. That was big money back then. You had to work for it though. Brutal learning curve. Lot of guys never came back for day 2.
