Monty Python aside, Tom Petty is the man and this is terrible, terrible news. What's the deal? Is his DNR keeping them from doing something to bring him back by any chance? That'd be a real shame if that's what's happened.

Family produced a DNR. Life support was removed and he is still clinging on to life.

I had heard that they pulled the plug because he had no brain activity. (brain dead) Though if they pulled the cord and he didn't die immediately. That would suggest he was not in fact brain dead.

That's not true, a medically brain dead person can circle the drain for a very long time before expiring.

Well. Muscles work like electronics. An electrical pulse must be sent to a muscle (the heart in this case) for it to contract. (pump) Those pulses come from the brain. If you are literally brain dead. Your brain is not sending pulses to the heart (which pumps oxygen to the rest of the body) and therefore your heart will not pump and your body will die of asphyxiation.

Brain dead = Body dead without life support.

So, he was not truly brain dead when they said he was.

JFK's brain was blown out but he still lived 30 minutes until he bled to death. You can remain technically alive without a live brain, just not for very long.

I have no idea if that it true or not, but as someone who loves physics. (pretty much all sciences) That defies everything that I know to be true. Though I'm the first to admit that the universe always ends up surprising me!

Have you ever heard of a chicken running around with his head off. It's a freaky thing to see.

I used to pith frogs in school. Those suckers could live awhile too.
