This one is crushing for me. He was "my guy" when it came to music. Not only his own, but with his Buried Treasure show and eventual channels on Sirius/XM radio, he introduced me and taught me so much about music.

It feels like I lost a close friend.

:(

Old school. Also younger than me and reminds me of my mortality. The Traveling Wilburys have lost a few.

Tom Petty , Michael Jackson, Prince die young, yet Keith Richards lives on?????God has a sick sense of humor.

Saw Chubby, Eric and Keith playing on Youtube last night. Chubby was out of his league. Richards can play albeit not like Clapton. But then who can.

He never sued him:

"About the Sam Smith thing. Let me say I have never had any hard feelings toward Sam," Petty wrote. "All my years of songwriting have shown me these things can happen. Most times you catch it before it gets out the studio door but in this case it got by. Sam's people were very understanding of our predicament and we easily came to an agreement.

"The word lawsuit was never even said and was never my intention. And no more was to be said about it," Petty continued. "How it got out to the press is beyond Sam or myself. Sam did the right thing and I have thought no more about this. A musical accident no more no less. In these times we live in this is hardly news. I wish Sam all the best for his ongoing career. Peace and love to all."
They settled our of court but lawyers did get involved.

Nice.

I know at one time, Stevie wanted to leave Fleetwood Mac and join the Heartbreakers. Petty said "there's no girls in the Heartbreakers" and that was that. They remained close however and performed together several times.

Man.... that duet is one of my favorite. They just synced up.

Out of all the men in her life musically and playfully ;-) (sometimes they were one and the same) lol.. they looked best together.

That was real nice! Stevie always makes my eyes gloss over. I just flat out dig her!

The guy had stage presence and could command a crowd.

He was the most gracious performer that I've ever had the pleasure of seeing live. Truly grateful to his fans, and thankful for where he was. Some people forget how they hit where they are, Tom Petty never did.

Best live concerts I've ever been to.

One thing about TP is that he was always cool about covering some good tunes from the British Invasion era. Here's one of my favorites covering Van Morrison and Them.

Me too! It kinda feels like losing a family member. He was like a cool uncle to me. I love both of his channels on SiriusXM. His "Buried Treasure" show has turned me on to a lot of stuff that I'd never heard before. I also loved the fact that he played many Rickenbacker guitars and basses (I have two Ric 12-strings and two Ric bass guitars of my own). Unfortunately, I never got to see him in concert (he never played much in my hometown).

On a somewhat lighter note, an ex-girlfriend of mine didn't like Tom Petty and the (stupid in her words) Heartbreakers. It wasn't long before she gave me an ultimatum, it was either her or TP. I looked her in the eye, and said, "There's the door." I don't miss her at all, but I really do miss TP. :(

It's really a shame that people are resorting to taking so many pills for everything these days. While I know some help prolong your life and are necessary for some people, it seems like we as a society seem to turn to medication too quickly and too often for everything these days.

It is easy for doctors to recommend pills instead of alternative methods. Although I don't know many alternative treatments there are for a broken hip. Sounds very painful. I believe it was a broken hip that led Prince to being prescribed heavy pain pills.

A lot of GPs (regular doctors) these days are nothing more than prescription writers, especially the ones working in clinics that have been acquired by HMOs or hospital networks. That's not to say all GPs are like that, but many are and people know this. That's not all on the doctors though. People do not want to go their doctor already not feeling great just to pay for the visit, fill out a ton of paperwork, sit in the waiting room for a while, then get called to a clinic room only to sit there waiting even longer only to have the doctor come in and say, "get some rest, drink fluids and you'll be better in a few days".

This guy (whom my buddy knows quite well) dumbfounds me. Though I must say. The man has REAL talent.

I just wish I had met him based on my buddy's stories!
