who is going to be our new back up qb? not Kellen moore. he may be smart but he can't lead us to wins if needed. plus for him to have seventeen on his jersey bothers me. I think seventeen should be retired. thatz how much I think of don Meredith. GREAT quarterback. so, any ideas on back up qb?

The draft may be a resource for back up quarterback. Drafting a quarterback may divert from acquiring a needed roster asset (in particularly on defense) but it may prove necessary nonetheless.

I would not count on Tony coming back, should we call him. CBS may not allow for it, if what we hear is accurate about the money being offered from CBS. I think it would be unwise to depend on a Rookie coming in and being able to back up Dak. What are the chances lightning strikes twice, with regards to rookie QBs?

That would be stupid on CBS' part. Romo leaving to go play for the Cowboys would be tremendous drama and PR for them. Especially when he rejoined Nantz afterward.

Kellen Moore as of now.

Quite a few teams have issues even finding a competent starter, let along a competent backup.

I would say even if we nab a rookie QB in day 3/UDFA and he shines, more than likely he'll still stay the 3rd stringer.

CBS would most certainly allow Romo to pursue his dream of once again QB'ing for the Cowboys if that opportunity came available to him. It's a story no one with any brains is going to get in the way of. Romo winning in the playoffs and maybe a SB is pure gold.

It's been mentioned so often, even Romo said never say never, about coming back. Why do some people seem
to think CBS won't let him play? Seems silly. Are people that far behind in the news?

I agree. CBS likely added a contingency clause in his contract, and Romo probably will come back ONLY to play for the Cowboys.

Think about it: Dak gets injured; Romo returns to play for the Cowboys (though I have my doubts he will be healthy enough to do it, but indulge my scenario); Romo leads the Cowboys to a Super Bowl, possibly a win; Romo retires to the booth; CBS gets exclusive rights for him to tell his story, cashes in on his added fame and prevents FOX from getting the scoop it would normally get being the premier broadcaster of NFC games.

I doubt very seriously CBS stands in the way if Romo returns to the Cowboys. In fact, I think his contract specifically mentions his return to the Cowboys and no other team.

I think it would also apply to injury for Aaron Rodgers or ESPECIALLY somebody like Ben Roethlisberger or another AFC quarterback in contention. That would be great news for CBS. He'd come back to the booth eventually anyway one day.

But in Romo's mind, I think the only two teams are Dallas and Green Bay. That's where his roots are.

I don't know if it would work for another team. CBS is banking on Cowboy Nation. I don't know if many fans would be as open to Romo if he left to play for Green Bay or Pittsburgh.

Not that I think he would come back but he seemed to indicate he had an out with CBS if needed.

Yeah, I don't agree. Tony is not going to just be able to step right in and do this job. He has to learn a lot. That takes time and if Tony is out trying to play football, rather then learn his new craft, that's not going to be popular IMO. Besides, who really gets the benefit of PR in that situation (assuming that's how it works, which I don't believe it would)? Would it be CBS who doesn't get the huge majority of Cowboy Games or would it be Fox? Heck, there isn't even a guarantee that Tony wouldn't stay in the NFL, if he is successful. never mind the possibility of him changing horses once he does hang it up, if he does.

Until we know more about the contract details, I think it's a bad idea to depend on Tony coming back. Too many factors we know nothing about that could effect something like that IMO.

that is all possible tyke, but I think there is a rift between romo and JG and linehan right now, and has been since last year when
they wouldnt let tony come back.
So why would tony want to come back and help those coaches win a SB ??
I read that tony was also miffed at some team dak players, that he thought should have supported him.

Then people always look at the bright side, tony leads team to SB win.
But there are other more likely scenarios, like hurt again, playing badly, losing to GB again lol, and or getting beat badly.
So if any of those happened then it would not help cbs.
Really only tony looking good and winning, maybe the sb, would help CBS.

And even with romo playing good, with our coaches, and defense, i dont think dallas is gonna be winning any SB's soon.

now it would be a great thing if tony was needed and then came back leads team to SB win, but the odds against that
are pretty high.

CBS might allow it if Jerry agreed to let Romo broadcast the game from behind center and the sidelines. JJ likes novelty and innovation that has entertainment value even if it might not make a lot of football sense.

I don't have a problem with Moore. And with Elliott in the lineup, his job will be easier than it was in 2015. If we can get a bit of defensive support, that would go miles and miles towards helping both these guys.

I do think we should look at developing a 3rd QB at this point, though, if we can get one we like with the right mindset and just a bunch of messed up mechanics.

If Prescott goes down, Romo will make a comeback. That is the only way Romo plays again. He knows the offense here and nowhere else. This would be Romos shot to get a Super Bowl.

Oh boy, all we need is a 37 year old former QB who misses the entire off season and is completely dedicated to playing golf and broadcasting football games to come out of retirement and play QB for us. We need a real solution at backup QB. This reminds me of the year we brought Jon Kitna onto the roster in the middle of the year while he had been teaching school. We also need additional QBs for OTAs and training camp. We can't have Dak and Kellen taking all the reps in training camp and OTAs.
