Tony Hunt is no good , I watched all PSU games this year..
also PSUs best linebacke is TIm Shaw he would be a steal in round 2...
I want Michael Bush in the 3rd round...

as a Penn State season ticket holder i'd say you didn't watch many Penn State games.

Especially when he says PSUs best Linebacker was Tim Shaw

ps he was not even a linebacker this year!!

DUMB!

Hunt was a dominator all year, he is probably the best pass blocker running back in the draft IMO

Section EG row 8 It just about around the 30 yard line, visitors side

Just got back from the Blue White game. 71,000 strong. Great tribute to VT as well. I don't think there was a dry eye in the building. Beaver Stadium is just beautiful, I'm breathless every time I walk in there.

Its truly a diffrent experience to go to a PSU game there. I walked in for the first time and was stunned that they could fit 107,000 in there but as soon as i sat down it all made sense ;) hehe its a tight fit but it makes the game all the more enjoyable.

I have been sitting in the student section the last few times ive gone bc i have some freshman/soph friends who go there and its amazing when they pass the lion up :D

Good luck with that this year! The new Lion is about 4 inches taller and weighs 30 pounds more! He looked goofy out there!:laugh2:

I would not be suprised to see Dallas taking a RB in round 3. Hunt is clearly an option at that stage of the draft

With this being Julius' last season do you think we should try to pick up Tony Hunt out of Penn State with our third round pick? Who thinks he would be there with our third round pick, or should we try to package that and a 6th to move up half a round to get him? Also i think if he is there in the 5th round that we take Scott Chandler TE out of Iowa he is a big boy 6'7" and 260 with an incredible set of hands. would make a perfect third TE.

I think RB in the third is a good idea. I like Michael Bush, but to be honest I don't know much about this Tony Hunt. Tell me more about him, like college stats, 40 times, that good stuff.

I think Hunt makes a lot of sense as a mid round pick, because Jason Garrett is going to install a Norv-style power running offense to which Julius would be a horrible fit. He only runs off tackle stuff and draw plays with any effectiveness. I wouldn't be surprised if they drafted a big back, even with MB3 on the roster, because its unknown whether MB3 could withstand the kind of punishment that Norv's offense typically puts on its feature backs, especially if MB3 is going to continue to take all the snaps in nickel packages. Its very odd when your supposed "powerback" is also your nickel back, and probably not ideal, but they are kind of forced to since JJ is so poor at catching anything but screen passes.

I saw Hunt in a few games because I'm in Big 10 country. Perhaps someone can answer for me. Compare Hunt to MB3. How is Hunt different? Seems to me they are about they same type of RB. Do others have a different opinion of this?

MB3 only looks like powerback compared to Julius, who hasn't broken a tackle in three years. MB3 is kind of a jack of all trades type of guy, who's best attribute is his versatility.

ourlads has hunt listes as a guy who relishes contact, north/south between the tackles runner, can run catch and block, strong and powerful gets yards after contact, rarely loses a yard, over 4000 yards in his three years starting in college.

So in essence he is a fearless pass blocker, can catch the ball and is a slam it inside runner who can be depended on to move the chains and break first contact.

Seems perfect for a team that wants a power running game. at 6"1 215 lbs, 4.55 if we were to get him in the third I would feel that is an excellent pick.

ourlads has him as a 7.19, a third/fourth rounder...

Hunt's best attribute is his vision. He makes a surprising amount of long runs just based on the fact that he can see things developing in front of him early and can then make a decisive move.

Tony Hunt
RB | (6'1", 233, 4.55) | PENN STATE

Scouts Grade: 71

Strengths: Possesses good size and is a powerful downhill runner. Runs with good pad level, is at best when he gets 20+ carries and can wear defenses down over the course of a game. Has excellent lower body strength, keeps legs driving and excels at picking up yards after initial contact. He is a tough, aggressive and competitive runner. Has shown good durability throughout his career. Shows good focus while the ball is in the air, rarely drops passes that should catch and can be a productive short-yardage receiver. He had his best two seasons as a junior and senior and continues to improve with more experience.

Weaknesses: Does not play as fast as his timed speed would indicate. He does not display a second-gear to run away from defenders in the NFL and he will struggle to consistently turn the corner as an outside runner. Lacks ideal lateral mobility and doesn't show great elusiveness in the open field. He is a solid underneath receiver but he's not much of a threat after the catch.

Overall: Hunt played in 10 games as a true freshman in 2003 and carried 34 times for 110 yards and one touchdown and caught two passes for zero yards. In 2004, Hunt played in all 11 games and made nine starts. He finished the year with 169 carries for 777 yards (4.6 average) and seven touchdowns, and caught 39 passes for 334 yards. Hunt again played in all 12 of Penn State's games in 2005, starting 11 contests. He complied 1,047 yards rushing on 174 carries (6.0 average) and six touchdowns, and caught 20 passes for 206 yards before injuring his ankle early in the Orange Bowl vs. Florida State. In 2006 Hunt started all 13 games and finished the season with 277 carries for 1,386 yards (5.0 average) and 11 touchdowns and also caught 27 passes for 259 yards and three touchdowns, garnering second team All-Big 10 honors (coaches and media).

Hunt is a powerful back with good size and a tough, downhill style of running. He displays adequate hands as a receiver and has developed into an effective blocker in pass pro. While he is solid in most areas, Hunt lacks any one special quality. He has good timed speed for his size but does not display a second-gear as an open-field runner. He also fails to make defenders miss in space. In our opinion, Hunt has a chance to emerge as a decent starter in a power-run scheme at the next level, but it's more likely he levels off as a good backup. He had an excellent senior season, so his stock is on the rise. Expect Hunt to come off the board in the third round of a weak running back class in 2007.

Summary : he is very physical and motivated in his running style. Smart and effective in his pass blocking and has shown good hands catching the ball out of the backfield. Great field vision but lacks BREAKAWAY speed in the NFL.

This to me sounds alot like E. Smith. I would love to see our two backs next year be J.Jones and Barber, with Hunt coming in along with Barber on some third downs and spelling Jones on some first downs.

I think this lets us make the decision on what to do with our runners after next season without it being a pressing need.

If there has been one consistent knock on JJ it has been he goes down to easily, if this guy can keep his legs moving and get yards after first contact then he's worth looking at. The elusviness may be a concern but as long as he doesn't run head first into somebody he should be fine, I'd rather have somebody who could get me some yards instead of somebody who spends too much time and effort trying to dance around a tackler.

One of his weakness says he doesn't play as fast as his times would indicate. What was he timed at and with the right coaching do you think he could learn to play up to that speed if it's good?

Edit: nevermind, I'm blind.... 4.55.....
