Tony Mandarich

He grew up and figured it out and is happy. sounds good to me.
One thing was always clear to me= he never had the footspeed and quickness to be a top tackle.

Throw out his rookie year and his last.

His numbers don't tell the entire story. Trust me.

LaFleur had back issues since college which is IMO the reason we passed on Marcus McNeil two years ago to draft Bobby Carpenter. All McNeil's done is start 32 out of 32.

But he ran a 4.5:p:

Can't be any worse than Billy Cannon, Aaron Kyle, David LaFleur, Quincy Carter

Since QC was a 2nd round pick um no 1st round is where the best are suppose to be taken

Regarding LaFleur, what some folks don't realize is that Chan Gailey's offense very much deemphasized the tight end as a receiver. Regardless of this, he became a heck of a red zone threat in '99 after we had lost Irvin and McKnight for the season, and when Mills and McGarity were hurt at various times.

He was actually rated as one of the best blocking tight ends in football in '98 and '99, one of the big reasons why Emmitt's career experienced a renaissance during those two seasons.
