Twitter: Tony Pollard Touchdown

Pollards numbers will come down. But there’s a huge gap right now. Pollard should be given a larger share of the touches as long as there’s a big disparity in production.

The important take away is that Zeke is not a good player anymore. Watch other NFL games. Almost every starting RB in the NFL is better than Zeke. JK Dobbins, Aaron Jones, David Montgomery. All these guys routinely break tackles Zeke cannot. I’m not even bringing up elite backs like Nick Chubb. Zeke is trending like Trent Richardson. He has no elusiveness or explosive play ability in a league where those things are valued. This isn’t 1990. Running over guys for a 3yd gain is not a valuable skill.

I have no idea what people are watching when they say Zeke is still really good.

That’s the thing. I don’t think most of these ardent “Zeke’s still got it” fans even watch other football games let alone focus on other teams’ running backs.

Putting his pass-blocking aside (which I credit Zeke for), Zeke is at best a league average running back in terms of actually being an asset with the ball in his hands.

It’s absolute comedy people start crowing when Zeke rips a 12-yard run as if he’s the only back in the league that could do that.

He's certainly not what he was, but he's had some good, hard fought yards this season. I think one of the biggest issues is that it seems pretty predictable when he gets the ball in his hands, that he's usually going up the gut.

Please don't read too much into this because it was simply one play. Just one.

But during the replay on Fox I couldn't help but notice Connor McGovern handled Aaron Donald on Pollard's TD run. Without that block it's probably a five yard gain.

Didn’t he holdout though?

Yeah, the FO is ultimately to blame for paying the contract but Zeke is the one that forced the issue and signed just four days before Week 1.

Zeke held out for the best contract and he got it. I still don't blame him for getting his. I blame Jerry for being a terrible poker player.

I think he still has value as a power back and extra pass blocker. I actually don’t want him running anywhere else but between the tackles. You can minimize his lack of foot speed by taking a straight lines.

I don’t mind the carry distribution between the two backs but I just don’t think the offense should be running through Zeke like it was 2016-17.

Yeah, his 100 yard games are behind him. But he has made some nice outside runs...or maybe they were all screen passes...either way, they have to give him more than just power runs up the middle, if for no other reason than to keep defenses honest.

Why pass protect when you can get him out for a dump-off of hot route that can get you 6 pts on a consistent basis. Play smart not the old habit ways.
Yep…., have pollard skirt out for a dump off for 60. That will slow them down.

Right, because he's the change of pace back and he excels at the role, that's what good change of pace backs are supposed to do.

He used to excel at his role. That is no longer the case. He cannot break tackles and gain extra yardages like he used to. Big difference.

Pollard had 4 broken tackles on that one run. Zeke had 9 total broken tackles for all of 2021. Let that sink in for a minute.
When you are tackled in the backfield it is not the running backs fault

That last cut close to the goal line. Eyes in back of head.
That was where I thought he was gonna be down. But he cut back left and ran away from the pursuer. I thought how did he know? Or was it just pure instincts. Great run by Tony Pollard for sure.

Also great downfield blocks from Simi and the tight end 50 yards down the field.

didn't notice those in the moment at hand. But Simi and that TE will get noticed in film study and praised I'm sure. It was Tony Pollard and his blockers that made that play go to the house.

Zeke would be fine if he was making 1 million per year and was not looked upon as a leadership role. He needs to be made an example of. Over priced has beens are no longer welcome.

Now I was never a fan of paying a RB such a large amount especially 2 years early but I think Zeke has turned into a great leader. He takes a beating running and blocking and I see him pulling/cheering for TP when TP is in the game.
