Put it this way, running backs don't win the job by sucking at blocking. Pollard is a change of pace back, he is effective and good for what he is.

Yeah, no.

The #1 job of a running back is to run the ball effectively.

Zeke at this point in his career is JAG level. He’s certainly not a dynamic playmaker.

Overstating Zeke’s pass blocking is akin to focusing on a QB’s ability to run a bootleg but sucking at actually passing.

I like both guys because they wear the star. Two very different style of RBs. Just wish Moore used them more together and could scheme TP more in space/passing game and misdirection.

give McGovern some credit some tools in the zone some say he sux..ironic Donald switched to the outside to take on Tyler far more then he did going between Mcgovern and Biadsz..lots of great blocks in that run,

Because you don’t usually face double teams on the edge.

Funny this should appear in the thread about Pollard's TD run. I thought it was going to get called back for holding. I thought McGovern was holding Donald on the play and we were lucky the refs did not call it.

In any case, it was a great run by Pollard and he clearly benefits from quickness and speed Zeke no longer has. But Zeke is a workhorse who can carry the ball up the middle 20 times a game. I think the way they are using both backs right now is perfect.

As for Pollard's blocking, he is clearly not as good as Zeke and one of his biggest problems I have seen is not recognizing where the extra guy is coming from. Zeke, for all the criticism he gets, knows where to block as much as how to block.

If Zeke was making $5 million a year instead of $15 million we would all be very happy with him.

Is there a big screen at the end zone, where he could see himself?
To his right and straight ahead was clogged with blockers and defenders. He was running towards open space.

Sometimes things just work out, even for the Cowboys!

Whatever he is, hes better than Zeke. Anyone can see that. If your the OC, who are you giving more carries to Zeke or Pollard? Easy answer.

Better at some things sure. Not so with others as evidenced by the sucking at blocking statement. If you are really honest you would admit that you really can't compare the two since their running styles are vastly different. Zeke is a more punishing runner who is the hammer. Pollard is the more finesse runner who is brought in for his speed. While they both run the ball the similarity ends there. I will even venture to say that neither of them can be successful without the other.

He's good, but his pass protection almost got Rush killed. That's why he doesn't start.
He WILL next season! Besides, Tyler Smith looked lost at times out there letting Rush get knocked around. Let's not just blame one player.

Was a great play. When he got loose he was not going down. He needs to continue working on that pass protection. That sack was on him, was a easy pick up. Pollard can block. I have seen him do it plenty of times. But Rush wasn’t hurt and Pollard got us 7..

Zeke: 86 touches 332 yards = 3.86 yards per touch
Pollard: 51 touches 319 yards = 6.25 yards per touch

Zekes production is below league average. Even if Zeke is better in pass protection, their production isn’t close enough for him to be getting more touches. The reason it happens is because Jerry Jones is the owner and he dictates the high draft pick, big contract player get more touches.

Okay, make Pollard the feature back, have him bang up the ball up the middle in traffic run after run and let me know if his numbers hold up and more importantly if he holds up. Simply looking at numbers means nothing when the guys running the ball are expected to different things are different runners. Just because they have the same designation as RB doesn't mean they are the same.

The money is an issue because of the cap. Zeke is a serviceable back. Can't break tackles or take one long, but can do the running back 101 things like block. You can get guys like that on the cheap and not tie up resources.

Is that only thing you can think of because nothing else makes sense?

If you cant tell how the better RB is, then I cant help you.

RB's dont win the job for their blocking. They win it for how they run and catch. At least RB's outside of Dallas.

You know I agree with you. To me there is no doubt who the better back is. But you can't let defenders get around you like that. He got Dak killed against Tampa. That's what helped Atlanta lose the SB to the Patriots. But I'll still take Pollard.

Watched it again, and you're absolutely right. He had no other logical place to go.

Pollards numbers will come down. But there’s a huge gap right now. Pollard should be given a larger share of the touches as long as there’s a big disparity in production.

The important take away is that Zeke is not a good player anymore. Watch other NFL games. Almost every starting RB in the NFL is better than Zeke. JK Dobbins, Aaron Jones, David Montgomery. All these guys routinely break tackles Zeke cannot. I’m not even bringing up elite backs like Nick Chubb. Zeke is trending like Trent Richardson. He has no elusiveness or explosive play ability in a league where those things are valued. This isn’t 1990. Running over guys for a 3yd gain is not a valuable skill.

I have no idea what people are watching when they say Zeke is still really good.

Right, because he's the change of pace back and he excels at the role, that's what good change of pace backs are supposed to do.
