Tony Romo is again the #1 Rated QB

Not to be an arse but QB Ratings are extremely overrated and 6-2 is the best stat Romo has going right now.

Even wins and loses can be a bit misleading, Romo 1st loss against the skins had nothing to do with Romo failing he put Dallas in a position to win. I think the combination of many factor including QB rating tells the truth. Bottom line bad QB do not put up good QB ratings

But you can have a good rating and not be that good of a QB.

Looking at the top rated QB's who also have the highest QB rating shows there is some truth to it as well. I agree it is not the tell all but looking at who is the highest rated QB's it would be hard to disagree with it.

in the NFL per NFL.com

Carson Palmer dropped to 4th @ 96.9 (with his "performance" tonight)

Romo is #1 @ 98.4
I bet he's #2 behind Peyton Manning and I haven't even looked it up.

Palmer dropped, but Manning had to have climbed.

I forget the context but I remember a while back before Romo became the starter, this board will constantly filled with posts debunking the QB Rating, I think it had something to do with Bledsoe compared to another QB, maybe Palmer im not sure.

This is old fashion, but to me it's Did you Win or did you Lose.

I think QB rating is a mostly useless stat. JMO.

But wins and loses are a team achivement. Heck I have seen some bad QB's walk off the field as a winner but not because of his play but because of the play of others. Bears have not achived success because of the play of Grossman and his QB rating indicates the same thing.

I think you have to combine the two. If it were just wins/losses, then Quincy Carter would be a very good QB. But how did he play in those games? The QB rating gives us a glimpse. Quincy's rating was not that good. Earlier in the season, David Carr's win/loss record was bad, but he was one of hte highest rated QBs in the league. Right not Romo has both. A high win/loss ratio and high QB rating.

Statistically* you should use wins/losses and QB rating to determine the value of the quarterback.

So where does Romo rank? :)

Behind Manning and just ahead of Brees. I don't claim the rating system as perfect but I do think it has a value and is part of the overall picture on QB play but not the only indicator.

Passer rating was developed as a way to include all the factors that make a great passer. It isn't perfect, it's just one way TD, INT, Comp %, and yards can be put together.

And it's just as accurate a measure of Romo in 2006 as it was of Staubach in 1971, '73, '78, and '79 when he won his passing titles.

It is what it is... a "passer rating" as opposed to a "QB rating" which is much more ambiguous in nature. But generally speaking I like the ratings and think they are relatively accurate. When looking at the list from top to bottom I don't see anyone in the bottom 1/2 that I would consider to be a top QB.

Bledsoe lovers take note. ;)

Ruined it?

I thought it was the best point of the thread.

There's the perfect example. If we went by yardage alone, he'd be destined for the HOF. Just count the pro bowls, where the highest rated passers will generally end up each year anyway.

Romo will make the pro bowl, btw. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what turned our season around.

I just wish he would have started the freaking season....
