Tony Romo is Overrated

Cowboy's Still Need a Starting Quarterback

By The Good Run, published Apr 11, 2008

Did the Cowboys do the right thing passing on Brady Quinn? True, Brady Quinn is an untested talent in the NFL and Tony Romo has had success in the NFL. Was if really wise to pass on a number one quarterback when your highly paid guy already has a problem with big games and pressure situations? The Cowboys have struggled not only to find a QB like Troy and Roger but also to find a team to surround a QB. They are still searching for a running game that is consistent and now need to start looking for a younger set of receivers but the Cowboys still need to take a look at their Quarterback.

Tony Romo finished the 06 season and completed the 07 season without the big victory needed to build the confidence of his team, coaches and fan base. If you take a look at the wins and losses for the past two years it is easy to conclude the Cowboys have finished each season right where they should have, watching the playoffs from their home. The Cowboys have to put up a series of victories against good football teams. In 06 just their victory against the Colts stand as the only significant win and their losses at the end of that season paint a better picture of the team. I do believe that Tony Romo is a good NFL quarterback but he will need to show more than he has to move this team to the next level.

In each of the last two seasons the Cowboys have ended their season with the ball in the hands of "their" guy and both times "their" guy did not get the job done. Whether it is a field goal attempt that one could argue he should have never been holding for or trying to force the ball to his favorite target at the end of a game, Tony Romo failed to come through in the clutch. It could be back luck or coincidence but we expect our franchise guys to overcome adversity and bad luck and make the plays that win games in the clutch.

I guess the Colts should've thrown Peyton Manning out a long time ago.

What is it with these screwball mediots who think they know what they're talking about? Not only dissing Tony Romo who has proven the last two years that he can play in the NFL, maybe the best in the NFC........but giving credit to a guy who couldn't even do it in college. Tony also did it in college. Talk about ironic, Brady Quinn is the guy who may be overrated from his play in college. He was mostly a product of the ND hype and has yet to show he can even play at any major level.

I agree that Tony has to pick it up to the next level in the playoffs, but so does the rest of the team... he can't catch his own passes. But to say he is overrated is to say Peyton Manning was overrated for the most part of his career because he couldn't win in the playoffs either. Speaking of Manning, didn't he lose in the first round too? I guess he is also overrated according to this idiot.

Romo has a long way to go. he has not proven he can win big games. i dont think we know if he's overrated or not? i for one dont think he should be rated that high in the first place. the guy threw 19 pics last season. and he did not play well in a playoff game for the 2nd year in a row. we will know a lot more after this season. getting mad at people wont win a playoff game.

P.Manning has a championship. Romo has not won in a playoff game yet.at some point you just cant talk about how good a guy is. he has to prove it. Romo has proven nothing.

My point was that Peyton won his championship in his 9th season....so I guess then he was overrated for 8 of them.. ..and now he is overrated again. Good Lord, Tony has only been and NFL QB for 1 1/2 seasons, give me a break.

I said I agree that Tony needs to pick it up in the playoffs....but he will do so a lot sooner than the Great Manning. Come to think of it, was Marino overrated? I don't think so.

So, in order for a quarterback to be good, he has to prove it by winning a championship.

Okay.

Brad Johnson has won a championship. So has Trent Dilfer, Kurt Warner, Mark Rypien and Jim McMahon. So, in your opinion, do you consider these guys as good, while Romo is not?

Let's switch gears for a moment.

Dan Marino never won a championship. Ditto for Fran Tarkenton, Boomer Esiason and Jim Kelly. Three of those guys are enshrined in the Hall of Fame. The fourth one will be someday. Does that throw your criteria for a loop? Just asking

Both the article and the two responses in question were generated by a Cowboys hater. Don't be fooled by his moniker, the history of his posts are quite clear.
