1. I don't think Romo is better than Farve, yet.

2. I chose Farve to compare with Romo because he is the most recently retired HOF candidate

3. I did not post Farve's last year with the Vikings because he did not start all games and it would just be unfair to use that when Romo is barely in his prime.

Couple of random thoughts:

1. Favre's best years are better than Romo's years
2. Favre's worst years are worse than Romo's.
3. Favre 2009 year was beyond amazing -- especially considered his age and how average his WRs were
4. Tony's career QB rating is higher -- much like most QBs of the current NFL passing era
5. Your right, Tony can't be considered as good as Favre, yet!

Maybe Tony can be like in that at age 39 he turns in his best season. Favre was a freak.

I don't understand how this is a short term team when it is one of the youngest teams in the NFL. Sure, Demarcus Ware may get old and lose a step or two in the next 2-4 years but the rest of the team is VERY young. Could you elaborate?

This team has NO money under the cap. There for can't re-sign there own players I.e Robinson. Also Romo is 32 years old. He won't do a Favre and play till he's 39/40. After that we could be looking at 2000 to 2005 all over again when we had 10 YES 10 starting QB's in that time.

Rodd, this view is a bit pessimistic for my taste.

I believe the team, in the past two years, has made strides towards smarter cap management.

Romo <could> play as long as Favre -- afterall he has less miles on him. Of course the counterpoint to that is Favre was the biggest freak at the QB position in terms of durability in the history of the NFL. The guy was an absolute tank. Tony has had just average durability up to this point in his career so the odds are stacked against him playing at a high level up to age 39.

I believe in the next year or two it would be smart of the Cowboys to replicate the Packers in taking a QB high in the draft even though that QB is 2-3 years away from playing -- ala Favre & Rogers -- IF a guy falls to them in the draft.

Romo probably won't play until he's 40, you're right about that for sure. It's hard to say when Romo's play will drop off, but one thing is for sure: when QBs lose "it," it seems to happen all at once. I do hope that we bring in a young QB and start to develop him sometime in the near future, but I THINK Romo can continue his level of play until he's 36-37. We'll see it's definitely a real concern.

As for the cap situation, I think Stephen Jones is pretty good about manipulating the numbers and finding/creating room when it's necessary. I don't think Robinson was going to be signed by the Cowboys at his market price to be the 3rd WR on the depth chart though. So, even if the NFL didn't slap Jerry with the $5 million penalty this year I think Robinson would still be a Jaguar.

Romo might struggle to stay healthy if our OL doen't improve. At the moment the interior is very weak. He won't keep playing while theres a chance he'll get injured.

I agree. Tony was usually starting his drives from enemy territory. I suppose there is a stat for drives started in a team's own territory, but I wouldn't know where to look.
