you thought that was a great performance?

that was a lot of high-percentage throws in there
it was a Colt McCoy like performance. Well, when he doesn't get hurt anyway.

ummm...that's what a great QB does, ala Manning...he reads the defense and immediately throws to the open man, and when his best target was covered, he threw it in a perfect place...he threw the ball to 8 different receivers and seldom made any bad choices or throws.

His team was down 10-0, and his running game was spotty at best...Brees was masterful, and I'll stand behind that assessment.

I just think of great performances as being gutsy: threading needles, 25-30 yard ropes, making something out of nothing, etc.

there was nothing gutsy about Brees tonight

he took what the D gave him, big whoop

yep, he had all day.

Yet, the funny thing is that Manning had just as much time....but he was throwing to mainly his first read and it wasn't as a result of any pass rush. Perhaps all of the talk about the Saints taking some shots on him rattled him before the game even started....

No way Manning was scared. Reggie Wayne playing like a poor man's Roy Williams was the killer.

I think Manning just got too comfortable back there

that pass that got ran back for a TD, it seemed to me that Manning stared Wayne down

Sean Payton is definitely the MVP of this Super Bowl. You talk about cojones - he's made some unbelieveably ballsy calls today.

Jerry will never let Garrett go because he is ruing the day that he let Payton go. Not necessarily a bad thing.. Just pointing it out. ;)

Greg Williams, holding off the pressure package until the very last, was also really smart. Then when it could make the difference, it did.

:p: :p: :p: :p: :p:

Completely agree. The Payton fans to me are funny. The man has been there 4 years and has only had 2 good years. There is nobody on that team worth a damn outside of Brees. They don't win 5 games this year without Brees.

The Payton love makes no sense to me. Where is his stamp on this team? Brees, Brees, Brees. That's all there is.

Brees was great, but the game changed after the suprise onside kick.

That call took balls of steel.

LOL...you must have a degree in getting it wrong.
Manning has been the MVP 4 times.
What doomed the Colts was lack of playmakers and poor coaching.
Too many players lost plus a coach who did not know the meaning of history.
And why was Matt Stover trying to kick a 51 yarder???..See poor coaching.

This.

Brees did what he does every game. Played amazingly accurate QB in a high percentage pass-offense. Coaches can't be the MVP, so Brees clearly deserves it.

However if Coaches could win it, Sean Peyton all the way. That on-side kick to open the 2nd half was simply amazing and stole the wind from the Colts completely. The Saints took charge of the momentum entering the half, then came out and completely stole any breath the Colts had left.

Sean Peyton called a nearly perfect game, except for his attempts near the goal line in the 2nd quarter. I'm sorry, when you have Drew Brees and that passing attack, you let HIM get you the TD. You don't let your RB fail at it 3 times.

you do know that MVP stands for Most Valuable Player right....

Ofcourse a coach cant be MVP because its not MVC .....

Good coaching job, if it makes you feel any better he will be even richer soon...

I was thinking the same thing when the game was close to being done. But instead of Payton, I was leaning towards the NO DC for calling an incredible D game and limiting the Colts to only 17.

You don't think he called a great game? The onsides kick was a great decision, totally caught the Colts off guard. Great adjustments at halftime. Good decision to go for it on fourth before the half. One of the best coaching jobs in the Superbowl ever. Of course Brees is good, but is Manning any worse?

One which ended in an NFC championship game and one which ended as Superbowl champions? That sounds like a pretty good run if it were the Cowboys instead of the Saints we were talking about.

Payton aggressively pursued Brees, even after San Diego let him walk and Miami would not look at him because of his shoulder. Drew Brees is Sean Payton's stamp on the team.
