Lesser talent meaning a 1-2 point difference? Yea, no winning teams do that. Again, let's use common sense here. Why trade back if a guy at a position of need is only a few points off of the guy you wanted to take?
In that scenario you can still consider that BPA. If you are splitting hairs over mere percentage points that's bad also.

If the best player available is a running back, kicker, punter, fullback or DT, we should probably pass and get something we need.

I don't know. If there was miraculously a player of Zeke's ability there late in the first round I would pull the trigger on him in a New York minute. Having two quality backs would be a great level of insurance and would allow us to roll on if one suffered injury, and would save one from getting worn out.

Ladainian Tomlinson and Turner the Burner come to mind.

David Johnson was picked in the third round. Just saying. :)

Fun fact...there are currently nine (9) RBs that have run for more than 1,000+ yards this season; every single one of them was drafted outside of the 1st round with exception of Zeke.

Who is leading the league in rushing and has led his team to a 12 and 2 record so far?

Thank you. This BPA nonsense irks me to no end. Good teams don't do that without using common sense. We aren't drafting a center at 32 if it's BPA.
Why not? We could rotate centers. Wouldn't that be awesome? Who needs a WR, CB, DE or LB to play 80% of the snaps when we could have 2 dominant centers getting 50% of the snaps each. Maybe one of them can be the long snapper. That would make it a no brainer!

First, rest assured, I'm not saying that DE isn't somewhere on the priority list.

It's more about the paucity of help at CB.

- Claiborne's contract is done
- Scandrick's contract is a $6m hit on next year's cap, so entirely plausible that that's going to be a cut
- Carr's contract has only one more year.

We have the #1 rush defense. We have 4 plausible (though all admittedly with question marks) pass rushing assets at DE going into next year's training camp: Lawrence, Irving, Gregory, and Tapper. The way he's come on of-late, might even add Mayowa to that list before it's said and done.
They should try to fill in obvious holes with free agents (either their own free agents or outside free agents).

In regards to Scandrick, it's not about cap hit, it's about how much he will get paid in 2017. That number is only 3M which is a bargain for an NFL CB. The other 3M of his cap hit is money that has already been paid and will hit the cap with or without him on the team.

Have you seen the footage of Frederick running routes and catching passes from Martin in pre-game warm-ups? Imagine trying to tackle the 320 pound Frederick if he catches a pass on a slant route. ;)

If we drafted an extra center, seeing Frederick as the eligible tackle in a jumbo set sure would be fun to watch.
