This myth that we can’t pay Dak and still field a Super Bowl contender has become tiresome. And is based more on ignorant fan B.S than it is fact.
Dak is every bit capable of leading a good team to a Super Bowl win. And it can be done with the high contract that a top 5-10 QB is going to demand. And yes. He’s not Mahomes but he is a high level QB.
That contract can be structured to leave enough room to surround him with the talent they can get from high draft picks next year. That is. If they use those picks and maybe a couple of mid level free agents correctly. They have what is needed on offense to compete with anyone when they are healthy. The o line will be back next year. It won’t be the line we had a couple of years ago. But it can be one of the better lines in the NFL. With OT the only position not on defense that has to be addressed in the draft or off season free agency.
If the concern is the front office won’t be able to draft well enough to do that. Then what does it matter if they decide to move away from Dak? The same front office will be making the decisions to field a team around a new QB. If they can’t figure out how to build a consistent winner around Dak and the contract he’s going to get. Be it here or somewhere else. They don’t deserve to be running an NFL team. I promise you. There are plenty of front offices out there that would figure it out.
The problem isn’t Dak. The problems are much, much deeper. We saw them when we had Romo who was talented enough at the position to go much further than they ever did. And those problems are the ones we have to hope get corrected before any of us are going to see the success we’ve been waiting 25 plus years on.
I wouldn’t recommend holding your breath.......
IMO, Dallas needs a gunslinger under center to win a SB.
The best way I can put it is. I can envision Dak winning a SB in NE. I
cannot ever envision Dak winning a SB in Dallas (under current ownership).
Some of that is structure & culture. Dallas post Jimmy has NEVER been tight enough in other areas to manage high level playoff games where ONE play, or ONE errant throw can decide the outcome. Dallas doesn't play good situational football and they haven't in years.
Given Dallas' culture IMO their path to winning will be through a top 5 QB..
