Totally agree we need some plug and Play players in the first and second round I can see developmental players in the later rounds but the first couple rounds you're looking for guys that can play 10 years for you.

We find guys that are good at marketing themselves smoking dope making rap albums don't get paid and making business decisions.

Well Kansas City draft guys that take them to super bowls that we could have drafted
They keep looking for guys that have great physical tools but no technique. Or they take guys who fall due to behavior issues.

Exactly all they look at is the measurables they don't look at the character or the intelligence of the player just raw measurables and they end up getting stupid players that have off field problems and get penalties at the worst times

It's not obvious enough to some people because we continue to do it every year.
Instead of getting an offensive lineman or running back we drafted another tight end we didn't need .
Add them all up and it starts to make a difference.
Especially the two guys from Kansas City that we could have had that are taking their team to a super bowl.
Since you went to the trouble to move my post why don't you try and add something intelligent to the conversation

2nd round picks are a major part of the core of your team. You could correctly conclude that our extreme ineptitude in the 2nd round is what cost us the playoff win. And this goes way back, Bruce Carter, Gavin Escobar, remember those guys?

We desperately need a GM to straighten this out.
Oh yes I mentioned purple drank in the op and we drafted Escobar and could have had Travis Kelsey

I don't know who scouts this stuff but we could certainly spend a bunch more money on it and try to do a better job because there's no salary cap on scouting

You're being too nice. Gregory and Jaylon were busts, plain and simple. Williams should be playing a lot more by now. Schooner should've played more than he did.

I mean, if they were 4th or 5th round picks that would be acceptable. Not even close for 2nd round picks.
Maybe a little, but we signed Jaylon to a 2nd contract and almost gave 1 to Gregory too. Usually busts don't have that luxury. Each had a couple seasons that made you think they could put it all together.

It was really a shame the amount of time and Goodwill that Jerry invested in Gregory.

In the end Gregory had no loyalty after all Jerry had done for him.

He's making money now and going to the game because of Jerry's belief and investment in him

I'm just kind of going off of memory here not the best researcher but this is the best example that I can give and it relates to exactly what we're watching today if I'm not mistaken we could have had Chris Jones and Travis Kelsey and we drafted Jalen Smith and Gavin Escobar.
In about an hour Kelsey Jones and the rest of the Chiefs will be going to the super bowl and Jalen Smith Escobar and our Dallas Cowboys will be watching it at home.
I dont think Escobar will be watching it at home.

He died.

Our 2nd round picks over the last decade or so are laughable…like to the extent it’s almost predictable.

I honestly believe last year we were on here joking about reaching for a TE in round 2…yea.

Seems odd that their 2nd round strategy never works, yet they stick with it anyway. Even crazier that they do a pretty good job the rest of the draft. It's really a baffling situation. This team could be dam good if they just used some brains in round 2.

They lost because they blew it.
Yes, and how'd they blow it? Couldn't stop the run. Why? Mundane starters at DT, no LB's. And where would that have been fixed? 2nd round picks.

Think, man.

It appears that Jerry lets the coaches(or someone else) make the 3rd round pick, as we suddenly start taking useful players there.

However, way too often in the mid/late rounds we take SSs, CB's, and DE's who lack lateral agility, the great career killler of NFL players. Why do you think Villiami didn't even make the team as a backup? Lacks lateral agility. Reggie Robinson, Eric Scott, same thing. And the list goes way back. We keep doing it, over and over. Why? Lack the ability to evaluate college prospects in their ability to play in the NFL.

Add no lateral agility.

And Jerry doesn't even understand that lack of lateral agility is not something you can learn or overcome. Jeff Heath, for example.
