Toomer: Romo better than Eli

Ok, no matter what stance you have, can we agree on one thing?

If you say Romo is better than Eli then you have to agree that Barry is better than Emmitt. Or vice versa.

No, we can't agree on that. How 'bout we just stick to saying the better player is the one that's better.

I'll give you Montana over Aikman, if you want it. Rice over Irvin.

I think Both Tony and Eli are very good QB but it does not take much to see the differance between the Giants and Cowboys go much deeper than these 2 players. Giants defense makes plays at critical moments we do not, the running game of the Giants makes the short yardage and the goal line runs for TD and no matter how you spin it or grab the stats these are the tough yards and the gut check yards. Giants have been able to make these plays we have not. This game is a lot more than just the QB maybe one day others will start to figure this out until the these constant thread about Romo compared to other QB will continue

Eli raised his level to get to Romo's status last year, but Romo has been better throughout his career.

If there are a bunch of teams with quarterbacks good enough, then why do four or so quarterbacks, mostly considered among the game's very best, win 7-9 Super Bowls every decade or thereabouts?

Interesting question you ask, but I don't think it is that simple. Ask it another way.

Would Terry Bradshaw have won 4 Super Bowls had he been drafted by the New Orleans Saints?

Would Troy Aikman have won 3 Super Bowls had he been drafted by the Cardinals?

Would Joe cool have 4 Super Bowls had he been drafted by the Lions?

I don't know. Personally, I doubt it.

To make that assumption to me is kind of insulting to the Steel Curtain / Franco Harris, Emmitt Smith / Michael Irvin, Bill Walsh / Ronnie Lott and etc.

Exactly. When you give all the credit to the QB you dismiss all of the great players who had as much to do with winning championships as anyone. Doomsday was part of the SB without them we don't win same as the Steel Curtain and all of the players you mentioned and more. Football the ultimate team game if other parts break down the team breaks down and no QB is going to go out single handedly and win it. Some will never get it.

I'm glad some of you acknowledge that Eli is a very good QB, as good as Romo is. And YES, the Giants D did come on strong, but then again, without a good D, the offense is useless. Yes Eli relied on his Defense to keep the other team from scoring, but then again shouldn't ANY team?

As for the 2007 "helmet catch", you have to give Eli credit for getting away from what, 3 sets of hands tugging on his jersey. Yes he heaved it, almost a hail Mary pass, but without his getting free, the play would have died.

Aikman even said Eli's going down, no wait, he's still on his feet. Fellas, Bradshaw was only as good as Swan/Stallworth's hands. A QB can only have enough time to read the defense if his line is protecting him. Eli might be horrible on another team, same as Romo might just have a ring on another team, no one knows.

But I am soooo looking forward to the first Thursday in Sept.......got my popcorn ready.....lol

You and me both!

A tough test having to open the season against the Super Bowl champs at their place but it will be a good early litmus test of where the Cowboys are as a team.

Even more importantly -- you cannot point to one or two "he got lucky" plays as some sort of evidence that all of his good fortune comes from great work by others (or poor work by defenders).

Actually, you can do that ... if you are willing to focus on every play that didn't turn out his way. Dropped passes. Plays blown up by great individual defensive efforts, etc. Otherwise you are simply ignoring the full picture.

Very true. You can't "get lucky" in every post season win and 2 superbowls, law of averages says so.

Yeah, and it'll be a great game. Gonna be a very interesting NFL year methinks. Both teams will be under the gun. Dallas to see if they've improved to the extent that they will / should be contenders this year.

And the jints, to see if they can continue their roll, and defy the odds - that it's incredibly tough to repeat. Everyone predicts they won't even make the playoffs this year, (which incidentally, those predictions bode well in their favor).

He definitely didn't get lucky in the 3 years he was one and done in the playoffs ('05, '06, and '08). His playoff QB ratings were 35, 88, and 40 with a total of 2 TDs and 5 picks.

True but you can rely on the defense going out and making sure mistakes on offense do not cost as much. To me that is why when you get into big games vs other outstanding teams you better have a defense of your own because when you don't those game become much harder to win.

Data that always seems to be ommitted.

I give him full credit for last year though. Eli had a great run.

Yeah, and knowing your QB is clutch as hell when the playoffs roll around propels the defense to play to a higher level. Knowing in the back of your head your QB might do some real boneheaded stuff is like poison to a team. Puts doubt in their head.

When I start seeing our WR making the clutch catches then we can compare. Romo is not the problem, I see the catches Eli guys pull down even poorly thrown balls how they come back to them and make the play. I don't see much of that is Dallas. Romo needs to step up as well but the problem in Dallas is not Romo.

Let me ask on Roger's Hail Mary was it a great pass or a better catch and run for the TD by Drew? Kind of goes hand in hand.

I don't subscribe to this theory at all.

The defense isn't playing poorly because they're worried about their quarterback.

They're also not playing better because of it.

Nor do I good defense plays quality defense regardless. Team my lose but they keep the scoring down.

Guys please, Eli has gotten so much better. he deserves everything. We all know if was a Cowboy he would be the greatest QB in the world.. Not all of you, but the people who are accept the fact that he deserves his name now among the elite.. At least he deserves to be in the argument. Listen ill take to my grave that Romo is better than Eli and Romo gets blamed for everything in the world, but for the people who are bashing Eli, its not fair... You have to give him his due.. Also to pont out im not saying everybody on this site is, for those who arent this post isnt for you
