Toomer: Romo better than Eli

Yeah, and knowing your QB is clutch as hell when the playoffs roll around propels the defense to play to a higher level. Knowing in the back of your head your QB might do some real boneheaded stuff is like poison to a team. Puts doubt in their head.

there is NO doubting that Eli is very clutch..... Also Romo has the highest 4th quarter rating in the NFL.. Thats why people have zero clue about what they say.. Everyone just jumps on the bandwagon and bashes Romo.. they are clueless and knows NOTHING about this team... For very idiot that says Romo chokes in the clutch has no clue what they are talking about.. There in NO facts at all to back up thier claim.. NONE... Dont waste your time with that botched snap please in the playoffs...

Guys please, Eli has gotten so much better. he deserves everything. We all know if was a Cowboy he would be the greatest QB in the world.. Not all of you, but the people who are accept the fact that he deserves his name now among the elite.. At least he deserves to be in the argument. Listen ill take to my grave that Romo is better than Eli and Romo gets blamed for everything in the world, but for the people who are bashing Eli, its not fair... You have to give him his due.. Also to pont out im not saying everybody on this site is, for those who arent this post isnt for you

Myself I think Eli is a very good QB and deserves his fair share of the credit. As for elite? I'm not as sold in large part because his career is also loaded with avg to less than avg season. Most elite QB's will produce on a consistent basis regardless of their team making it to post season or SB. I thought last year was the best season Eli had as a pro but looking at his QB rating that is the reason Eli gets question often about is he elite?

Clearly he deserve credit but then Brad Johnson deserves his fair share of credit when he helped Tampa win a SB

Define clutch.

I call clutch knowing when to give up on a play. Throw it away and don't risk a fumble. Play it safe with a lead. Make sure you aren't throwing risky passes with a 24 point (or 17 point) lead.

People called out Tony for losses at the end of seasons, but honestly, last year was all about the hole that he created in the first month of the season. Better decision making would have resulted in two more wins.

That would have been pretty darn clutch come December as we would have rolled into the playoffs.

You and many others forget that in both those loses you are referring to, he also was responsible for much of our scoring. For all we know, Eli (or anyone else) loses both games in blowout fashion. Take a look at Eli's Commanders game performance, for example. He also had 3 ints, but instead of 3 TD passes and 300+ yards to help offset it he had 0 TDs and 45 QBR. Can you even recall in recent years Romo laying an egg like that? I can't.

And speaking of early in the season, what about the road win at SF while playing with broken ribs?
You guys only recall the negative.
You'd think Tony had a Eli 2010 version 24 ints last year from listening to this stuff.

Eli Manning is like Trent Dilfer. He's a top-10-ish QB that is much closer to 10 than 1. He's good enough that if he plays well - not great - and the rest of the team around him can play great he will win a Super Bowl. He has won 2 Super Bowls using this schematic.

I do think Romo is a better QB than Manning, and had he been a Ginat hge may have won more Super Bowls than Eli has.

The year Eli won his first Super Bowl the Giants beat NE for the title from a duck pass by Manning that only was completed by luck (and a great play by the WR). In the same playoffs, the only reason the Gaints advanced is because htey beat Dallas in a game where the Cowboys special teams and defense kept giving away the lead charged by Romo and the Cowboys passing attack. Even then, it came down to perfect pass from Romo to Crayton where Crayton stopped on the route and it fell incomplete. If Romo's receivers did what Eli's did in those playoffs, it would have been Romo, not Eli, advnacing in the playoffs. In other words, Crayton and Ginats receivers - and Dallas' poor defense - have more to do with Eli winning his first Super Bowl than Eli himself does.

This is how I define the differnece in loss and defeat between the 2 QBs using that season as an exsample. In one case, you have Tony Romo, a better QB making perfect throws that kill his Super Bowl chances because of sub-par receiving and defenside; and in the other case, you have Eli Manning, a not-as-good QB making marginal throws, but that translate to Super Bowl succes because of ecellent receiving and defense.

You can actually fast forward to last season and look at the play where i the second Ginats game where Miles Austin lost a perfect pass from Romo in the lights. If a Cowboy receiver does not screw up that play - again in a game where the Cowboy defense and special teams were out to lunch - then the play is completed and Dallas moves on to woin. Once again, Miles Austin and Dallas' poor defense have more to do with Eli winning his second Super Bowl than Eli himself does.

The numbers do not lie - as Toomer pointed out - but I argue that the circumstances do not lie either.

Huh? What QB isn't?

aaaah, now I see the light.

One game with a 45 PR offsets two lights out playoff runs that resulted in superbowl wins.

.

Actually, as I pointed out earlier that is completely untrue. The year that Dilfer lead his team to the SB, he had a 83.7 passer rating in the playoffs. He went 35-73 for 590 yards with 3 TDs and 1 int. Remarkably, that was over four games.

Manning on the other hand was 106-163-1219 with 9 TD and 1 int for a 103.3 PR last year. In the other SB season, he was 79-119-854 with 6 TD and 1 int for a 95.7 PR.

There is a HUGE difference there. Manning completed more passes in his "worst" year than Dilfer even threw.

That comparison holds no water.

I'm not putting down Eli. This was no stement about Eli great playoff run.

The point was to defend Romo and using Eli's bad game (one of about 30-40 he has had) as an example that some of you pick a terrible Romo quarter or two and make it a statement on him as a player overall. When really his worse games are far better than some.

So your argument is this:

"Tony Romo, great for my fantasy team, even in losses"

How about this one?

Tony Romo - can't do it all by himself.

I'm not slamming Tony in this thread. Only showing how people here apply way different standards to evaluation of Tony vs. Eli.

Oh yeah, and also that many on the board say stupid things like Eli = Dilfer. That's just wrongheaded

That's true.

For me personally, my own respect for Eli Manning shot up dramatically after this past season.

He's no bus driver.

Did you honestly just compare Trent Dilfer to Eli Manning? really? Come one now.

Until Romo wins a couple of championships, he's never going to be looked at as better then Eli no matter what the stats indicate. It's really as simple as that IMO.

It all depends who's doing the looking; there are always people who consistently misunderstand how causes relate to effects.

But both players have a lot of playing to do yet, anyway. Time will tell which has the better career. It'll also tell us which has the most team success. Eli's got a huge leg up in that second, more important, category.

LOL at Trent Dilfer being a top 10 QB. What year was this?

You act as if Eli's receivers never failed him in the SF game Mario stopped running his route and it was an interception. 2010 Nicks stops running the slant against DAL Pick 6. Steve Smith bobbles the ball interception in the SB. No one is perfect but let's not act as if WR never failed him and he has a perfect situation.

IDA @ Eli making marginal throws. Eli makes some sick throws.

His Defense has failed him in 2011 all season long, 25 pts a game, 375 yds a game.

I would not use Trent Dilfer I would use the example I gave in Brad Johnson with Tampa, I don't consider him elite but he had a very good season and one that brought him to the Pro bowl. But elite? No I don't think so. In his SB season he put up 22 TD with only 6 ints so he produced but Johnson also had a lot of lack luster season as has Eli. Most so called Elite QB post very good numbers year in and year out not up and down season as Eli has

Again. Look at the post seasons they had when they won the SB.

Brad 53-98-670 yards (3 games). 5 td. 3 int.

How does that compare to Eli's superbowl years? 106-163-1219 with 9 TD and 1 int for a 103.3 PR last year. In the other SB season, he was 79-119-854 with 6 TD and 1 int for a 95.7 PR.

Not even close.
