Atta boy Bear, you've done us all-knowing Virginia fellows proud. :lmao:

"All-knowing"??

MOI??

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...

Yeah, RIIIIIIIIIGGGGGHHHHHHTTTTTTTT...

Good-looking, undoubtedly... possessed of a quirky charm, indubitably... smarter than the av-er-age Bear, absolutely... but all-knowing??

Not until I figure out how to catch flatulence, and paint it green... :D

I'm glad you're good but it's very clear that Jerry learned something from Bill and that was to deal with your "must haves" in free agency.

Hmmmm, hadn't looked at it that way... you might be right...

Our must haves were RG and FS and a backup QB. They did it. Now the first round at least is theoretically a BPA pick.

Or as I suggested in another thread, BLA-- Best Longhorn Available...

Just to be sure, you're tooting your horn for predicting we would sign a FS, RG, and backup QB?

I'm not sure that took a crystal ball. You're far from the only person that predicted it, but congrats anyway.

And for getting them in the right order... and for getting the right players mentioned at each position, even if I was ultimately wrong in my assessment of them...

Gee, I must have missed all those threads with the same predictions I made... would you be so kind as to point me at them, so that I can congratulate their authors on their solid analysis??

Chuckle... the truth is, you and guys like you get mildly annoyed at the self-congratulatory tone of my post... I fully expected that, indeed I enjoy it... but the plain and simple truth is, I DID put my predictions out there, and the offseason HAS played out for the Boys pretty much the way I called it...

And I felt like pointing that out... seems fair, I laugh at myself when I'm off-base too...

Yes, you should definitely predict this reaction when you pat yourself on the back in your own thread, particularly when you're patting yourself on the back for something that was so obvious. The minute Rivera had back surgery that was a 100% certainty. As for backup QB, that was pretty clear with Bledsoe leaving and no one other than Matt Baker on the roster. The only questionable pick was FS, but that can hardly said to be unexpected.

I mean, it's not like there wasn't 1000 threads and posts about which RG or which backup QB we would sign. Same for FS, but maybe not to the same extent. People were definitely crying for help at the position, and predicting a veteran to be brought in for competition.

You've noticed it too? Nice to know I wasn't imagining things.

What I predicted is that some of you would miss altogether was the facetious nature of the post... I even had a fair idea which of you would be annoyed by my tone...

particularly when you're patting yourself on the back for something that was so obvious.

It was obvious, yet I seem to have been the only one who put it all together into one neat little package...

Sorry if the truth of that annoys you, but somehow I expect what annoys you more is that some folks in here seem to have enjoyed both my initial post, and this followup thread...

Yeah, I figured if we were talking serious football, you wouldn't have anything of substance to offer...

The Bear is one of my favorites, except when he leaves the trash spread out across my yard after some midnight dumster diving, but that just goes with living in the mountains I guess.

But I gotta say, I don't see what the heck he's bragging about. I was on the thread where he was politicking for Davis, and I agreed with him, but that was just one of several threads discussing the widely held notion that we needed a guard.

As for safety, we've all been hoping for a guy here for a long time, anybody who didn't have safety on their free agent wish list is probably watching womens basketball right now.

As for the back up QB, lets see we all knew Bledsoe was getting cut, we all know that we are planning on contending this year, and would obviously need a capable back up. So lets just name the handfull of guys who happen to be available?

I'm sorry Bear, you are by far one of the most insightful, fair and open minded posters here, but I don't see where the horn tootin is waranted,

Congrats. You made 3 obvious predictions in 1 single post.

I predict that the Cowboys will draft at least one player in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounds of the 2007 NFL Draft.

Do I get to make my own thread proclaiming my clairvoyance when all three come true?

We probably should, it would in all likelihood be the first time in your life you ever got three in a row right...

Of course, with your luck, the Boys would trade down out of the first round, picking up extra picks later... LOL...

Except that's not the thread I'm talking about at all... go back in the archives, look up "Bear's Look at Free Agency, v. 2007"... you'll find a thread I started just before, and I mean JUST before, free agency started... in it, I identify the top 3 team priorities in free agency as being, in order, right guard, backup quarterback and free safety... in the post at the start of this thread, I quote the specific comments I made about Leonard Davis and Brad Johnson in that article, and I discuss what I said about Ken Hamlin in that post...

It was a post intended to try to figure out which way the Boys would go in free agency, and this thread was started to point out that in my opinion, I did a pretty good job of calling it, for somebody on the outside of the organization...

With the signing of Hamlin, I got to thinking back to that thread I started, and got to feelin' impressed with the job I did on it, so I made a post saying so... I've gotten lots of stuff dead wrong before, but this time at least, I called it pretty good...

I'm sorry Bear, you are by far one of the most insightful, fair and open minded posters here, but I don't see where the horn tootin is waranted,

It's my party, and I'll toot if I want to... toot if I want to... toot if I want to...

You would toot too, if it happened to you... :D

Incredibly, our resident egomaniac posted the exact same "Look at me!" drivel at The Ranch--with all the sophistication of an attention-starved five-year-old.

And on the third board that I posted it to, as well... and on the Cowboys' newsgroup... copy and past, ya gotta love it...

Um, no, we don't.

Seems fair, I posted the same original piece all 4 places... what, did you think I was giving you guys an EXCLUSIVE??

More lame folksiness. Stick a quarter in his slot and watch him go to work.

As if... it wouldn't be right, to not share the sheer wonderfulness of me with as many people as possible...

Somebody put this clown out of his misery.

OK, we've got 3 weeks of free agency behind us, the Boys have just signed Ken Hamlin, and the signings should be few from this point on, mostly depth type signings... so I thought that his would be an opportune time to take a look at the free agent analysis I wrote a few weeks back...

For openers, I said the Boys' top priority should be the offensive line, particularly a replacement at RG for Marco Rivera...

I then went on to discuss Dielman and Steinbach, then my third choice was:

And when the Boys announced their first free agent signing, it was big ol' Leonard Davis... this Horns fan was happy...

The next priority I mentioned was finding a backup QB, and the Boys' next signing was Brad Johnson, to fill just that role... I'll only give myself half credit for that one, though, because although I did mention Brad as a free agent, I basically blew him off, because of his rather weak arm...

So I was right and wrong at the same time on this one... and I still think that Brad was the most questionable of our free agent signings...

Then we moved on to the Cowboys' third priority in the offseason-- free safety... and just today, the Boys moved to address that position, signing Hamlin...

I am quite happy to be proven wrong about Hamlin's price tag, and quite pleased with this most recent signing...

So, in that analysis, I listed the Cowboys' top three free agent priorities as right guard, backup quarterback and free safety... in that order... and the Boys' first three free agent signings (from other teams) were a right guard, a backup quarterback and a free safety... in that order... OK, I dismissed the notion of signing the backup QB they finally wound up signing, and I incorrectly assumed that Hamlin would want a LOT more money than the Cowboys ended up paying him... but I had the positions of need right, the order of priorities right...

And I'm more convinced than ever that before it's all said and done, Randall Godfrey will wind up in a Cowboys uniform too, which will make that free agent analysis easily the most prescient I've ever written...

I'm actually rather surprised, with the regime change in Dallas this offseason I was more or less guessing at what the new staff would be targeting... but I'm impressed with me too; I was GOOD this time around... LOL...
