Dirk and KG guarded each other and KG was supposed to be the best defender in the league.

... and Yes switching the players would have seriously altered the outcome.
Again, it's cool to chat but I actually WATCHED that series. It wasn't even close as to was the dominant player.

You sure you WATCHED that series? Maybe you missed game 3, hard to see where Dirk made a shot over KG. Lots of Joe Smith though

you can't be both... he's not a sound defender... he's athletic, and quick, can cause problems in the passing lanes... (AI did that)... but sticking to his man, forcing him to the help, pressuring him... westbrook falls asleep at the wheel sometimes...

he's an average defender in my eyes... too many opposing guards put up numbers to call him a great defender.

There are only a handful of great defenders in the NBA.
Westbrook is a plus defender but he is not great due to consistency.
He can be great and at times in 4th quarters he is.
He is a far better defender than Curry/Parker/Kyrie/Harden and others of his peers.
He is far from Tony Allen but he has also is the main ball handler and a severe offensive force.

We'll likely see him in the NBA playoffs this year and that defense will likely determine just how far OKC goes beyond round 1.

Yes, I did. But congrats on your whole 4 minutes of viewing. Once you have seen the rest of the game get back to me.

That's a horrible defensive list... you can lock down better than them..lol
but we both acknowledge his tools, & you are correct, OKC's defense will be the deciding factor in how far they go.

Agreed and I was a good defender had to be because my offense sucked, LOL.

That list is amongst the leaders at the position currently which was what I was noting. Comparing him to his actual peers he is good defensively.
Leads the league in steals and has over 7 boards per game so he is a better defender than credited. But definitely not the old school fundamentally sound defender.

His PER this year is actually higher than Curry and behind only CP3. 24 points, 10 assists, 7 rebounds and leads league in steals is a pretty crazy stat line.

If he was EVER coached to be fundamentally sound on defense can you imagine?

I hear ya on that...
Zeke spoke about this a year ago when discussing the spike in scoring at the PG position. He said the rule changes were not an excuse, he's said players are not being taught properly, & aren't working hard enough, often taking possessions off. Damon Lillard might as well not even be on the court on the defensive end. The value of a player like Marcus Smart will be magnified if he's ever on a contending team (now of course he has to get better in other areas)

I LOVE Marcus Smart. Love his AAU and HS Coach and he was in our HS gym a lot.

His HS team didn't give up 50 points all YEAR in the highest level Texas HS ball. He guarded the others team's best player. He is a throw back player.

try watching the clip, it might refresh your memory, I can add up the field goals, but I think that's all his FGs made in game 3. Think there was 1-2 transition shots where KG was close, but it's clear that your narrative is not true.

I watched the SERIES, not one game or some youtube clips.

Dirk torched KG repeatedly.
They used different defenders when they realized KG couldn't guard him and they needed KG fresh on the offensive end.

Again, I am not going to debate the obvious 33 points, 17 rebounds 3-0 series win as you are tilting at windmills and completely clueless.
If you think KG is better than Dirk you are simply very wrong.

Almost as wrong as listing Wilt the 5th best Center....
