I don't think he gets anything more than $10 million in a signing bonus, and maybe not even much over $5 million. I think teams are genuinely scared to committ money to this guy. Denver was rumored to be a contender for his services and the owner basically told reporters that he didn't want to deal with TO. TO screwed himself over. He's about to find out how much money he lost. It's bad enough signing a guy who may only have one more phenomenal year left in him, it's even worse with the potential blowup issues.
..the owner didn't want to deal with him.
But maybe that was because TO's agent had a contract framed out that was meant to only establish serious offers for TO.
Offers that would at least equal to something Dallas might already be intending to offer..?
I still believe the lack of real activity on TO isn't because he's this or that with past problems. Or this or that with money issues.
It's that the other teams already know that Dallas and TO are on the same page and any offer they make would only be shopped to Dallas and they'd never sign him.
So other teams, as happy as they might be to get a guy like TO, don't want to set the market value for Dallas.
Most of them are looking at their other options.
If things fall apart in Dallas in negotiations, then they might get serious. But I think the reality is that other teams just aren't going to pursue what looks like a done deal with Dallas and TO. And also other teams don't have a HC like BP to engineer a player like TO into their team.
It's going to take a firm hand on the rudder and a good rapore with the HC and his team and their front office to bring a guy like TO to their team.
Most other HC would be deathly afraid of TO coming to town and exploding and getting the HC fired.
BP is very solidly in control of his future in Dallas. That makes him deal from a position of strength in any situation like this. He has no fear that a TO bad situation would impede his career or team progress.
We'll see.
