I'm not a soccer evangelizer, far from it, but if you're just watching people jog around it's likely not a very good soccer match. Speed and sprinting ability is likely the #1 asset for any pospective soccer player.
I'm not really into watching guys run marathons either. Sprint races are fun. But for the most part running around doesn't excite me. The flopping drives me insane. I can't stand to see a grown man pretend to be a sissy to draw a yellow card. I don't respect that at all.

I agree, the diving you see in games now is so bad that it's beyond a joke.

One question I would ask you is what do you think of the trend in Football now where players are asking for flags to be thrown all the time.

It may be just me but this seems to be happening more & more.

I would be concerned that unless something is done to stop it, we might end up in a situation like soccer where the players are trying to con the refs by simulating fouls. I guess the one big advantage that Football has is that there are more officials to spot any attempt to con them.

Now we are getting somewhere.

You see, kickers and punters often try to con refs by simulating fouls.

And there is a certain person who is known to be hostile toward kickers ....

No one likes flopping, but if you're really into the sport you can get past it. Just as much as I can get past flopping in basketball. But yea, again I'm not going to try to shove soccer down your throat. Some people don't like it, no skin off my nose.

agree with every word of this. cheating in this manner seems to be on the increase in all sports to be honest. you've got the obvious diving in football, basketball is apparantly as bad, the blood scandal recently in rugby and as you say receivers constantly looking for flags. when the stakes are as high as they are with all the money and publicity sport attracts people are going to try and gain any edge they can.
i accept that the problem in soccer is far worse than american football but i would also add that even 15 years ago players would be embarrased to be diving about the way many do these days so if i was involved with the nfl i'd be looking to come down on hard on those constantly seeking flags when there has been no interferance.

regarding the extra officials i was pleased to see uefa experimenting with two extra assistants behind the goals in the europa games which hopefully will help cut out diving in the penalty area.

ABQCowboy, was that politically correct enough for you or should I actually re-read my history books?
