We're not gonna get an impact guy at 22 -so we may as well see if we swing another pick - possibly another 2nd rounder.
We have holes.

1st good idea I've seen you post

I agree, the 1st 2 rounds are loaded, a high 2nd would be just like picking at 22, and we can add a 5th and a 1st in next year's draft

How many holes?

Let's see, on Defense

1 pressure player to complement Ware
1 FS or CB (depending on Henry's situation)
1 NT to rotate with Fergy

On Offense,

1 OG (via FA) to upgrade Rivera
1 young WR to groom, but doesn't have to be a number 1 pick.

Of course, we need to swap Bledsoe and pick up additional depth, esp. on the OL. But I don't see a ton of holes on this team. At least fewer holes I'm used to seeing over the past years.

And you have to think we can solve several of these problems via FA.

That said, if the opportunity is good, I wouldn't mind trading down a few spots.

I agree with the idea to trade our 1st round pick for more picks.

but how can anybody predict when and where impact players will be in the draft?

Lets see: Brady(late rounder), Ray Lewis(pick 26...I think), Joe Montana, I can go on and on.

I am just saying, who knows where the players that END UP being impact players will be drafted.

I think Jerry want's Darren McFadden on this team in '08. That said, he may trade this years pick in order to put the Cowboys in a position to draft him. Darren's cousin was through our city recently and he thought McFadden was sure about coming out after the '07 season, in part, because he's been told the Cowboys would try and select him if he does. I hope its true.

The cowboys have picked at 22 3 times.

1966
#22- Willie Townes DE
1974
#22- charles young RB
1997
#22- David Lafleur TE

Last years #22 pick was Manny Lawson to SF

The last 10 #22 draft picks were
06-Manny lawson
05-Mark Clayton
04-JP Losman......our trade
03-Rex Grossman
02-Bryan Thomas
01-Will allen
00-Chris Mcintosh
99-Lamar King
98-Tebucky Jones
97-David Lafleur
96-Marcus jones

Adrian Peterson's injury might make his stock drop, I hope he has a bad combine so he'll be there at 22.

This is a video of McFadden, hes got a great ability to get to the next level between LBs and the safeties and make a play. Julius is usually so baffled that he actually had a 4 yard gain that he just plows into the safety.

I'm leaning towards The Guard from Auburn, Ben Grubbs, we should be able to traded down and get him a little later.

What about taking Justin Blaylock either at # 22 or trade down and pick him later, plus pick up another pick? High for a guard, but we really need a good guard that can blow his man off the line.

folks need to keep in mind that unless there is someone who another team really wants (i.e., has rated higher than everyone else) then trading down from a spot like 22 is often not possible -- just not many takers there.

EVERYONE is going to want McFadden next year. He's going to be a top 2 or 3 pick and one of the best RB's to enter the draft in years. He ran a 4.36 earlier this year and has size, power, good hands, and blocks well. Think LaDainian Tomlinson when you think Darren McFadden. While I'd love to have him, he'll be long gone before we have a shot (hopefully).

We have holes.
Then we might as well trade down every year. 22 will be the highest we draft for a few years.

If we're not going to get an impact guy at #22, why would anyone trade up to the #22 spot?

Then again, maybe we trade up. Who knows. I still like staying pat and taking Blaylock.

If we could swing a deal for McFadden in 08, my god, will this offense take off!

this is a very dumb reason to trade down. i believe in BPA/lol not calling u dumb, but the idea of trading down for more picks.

the fun part about the NFC is u can be like the Skins and go from 10-6 to 6-10 in 1 season... or u can be the Saints!

picking 22 for years to come is a pipedream or nightmare pending on how u look at it!

Teams that improve and slip in the stadings can look at their young players... chances r if u improve its because your rookie glass is contributing and your second year guys have improved vastly over their rookie season!

There is almost always a trade out there when a team's on the clock.

Most of the you get fair value. On occasion the value can get skewed based on desire of team looking to move up.

I think most here agree on our needs:
OG, FS, NT.

I'm convinced OG is the way to go.
We could do just fine without upgrading FS and NT so OG should take priority.

I really believe we had good/improving play at OT throughout the year. I like OC Geroude, although giving him a nice contract with too much financial security may be a mistake. Seems to be a guy who lacked effort his first three years. Now he finds it in his contract year...what a surprise.

We need to really think about bringing in 3 OG's to compete.
I'm not talking RFA's here.
Significant FA signing and late 1st RD PK where the first one usually goes off the board.

I don't think everyone (or even most) would agree that those are our only needs or even our strongest needs, particularly if Henry moves to FS. We're not moving up or down. We should move Henry to FS, pick up A. Samuels, and draft A. Spencer/J. Moss/Q. Moses at LOLB. Take an OG in the 2nd round and a WR in the 3rd. There are so many WRs in this draft a quality guy will drop to the 3rd.
