Trade down for Earl Thomas?

Perhaps things could fall this way....

Dallas is up at #19 and either Lamar Jackson or Mason Randolph is there. A team trades up to take a QB, and Dallas gets a 2nd rounder out of it. New England, or perhaps a team that got left out early on the QB buffett, are good candidates.

Now Dallas has two 2nd-round picks.

Dallas then trades a 2nd for Earl Thomas, but retains a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and two 4ths in this draft.

Winner.

New Orleans or Pats...

Its simple The tag is 17 mil i believe..Meaning the cowboys are carriying that much against the cap, until they sign a contract..

The franchise tags design is set so that a team can buy time to get a player signed..in the event it doesnt happen the tag stays in place, for the season..Just because you can use it, doesnt mean you should..

You were referring to Seattle not being able to franchise Earl. That’s what I was asking about. I know what the franchise tag is and how it works, was just asking why they couldn’t. And wasn’t making an argument for if they shoukd. Just thought I was missing something as to why you were saying they can’t. They can. And for safeties it’s 11 mil

Yes he was check the stats. What other safety had 120 tackles, sacks, ints, PDs, 2 fumble recoveries for TDs?

Idn you didnt give me numbers or all the stats..He was not the best safety in the nfl last year...And you ignored a factor..his production is a product of playing with seatles defense..Not ours.

Ooooo.sorry..Well he has a contract in place doesnt he? I get where you are going.Their hand is shown..

Either he is worth his salary or he isnt..Just like Dez..They are trying to get something, and if they dont, They will have to cross that bridge as well..

They claimed dez production not worth what he was getting paid, thats not the case with Earl..So why they trying to trade him? Lol.

Exactly he puts up those numbers with no help. Thomas has help and can't touch those numbers.

yeah, agreed. it was more just a thought exercise wonder why they couldn't. My thing though is that I don't think they're saying he's not worth the salary, just that he's not in their long term future as they're clearly in rebuild and his new contract will be too long for their liking. The tag keeps the salary close to where it is now, and is only a one year commitment vs a 5 yr as the highest paid. So I just feel like even if they'd prefer to move him to dump salary and recoup something, I can see a scenario where they tag him for a year to insure they don't lose him for nothing, and I don't think they have many/any high priced contracts due anytime soon where keeping him an additional year would prevent them from signing anyone

Huh? Bro you are trying to sell me on him being the best safety in the Nfl..

In the last two years Earl has missed 7 games. PREVIOUS he played all sixteen every year...His tackle count is no where near what church did two years ago..
Its a gd firesale in Seattle!

He is s interception machine but not in the last two years..He is exhibiting..Sorry your boy is declining and not worth the investment..

Tackles and sacks are your go to stats for a safety? All that tells me is Miami plays him in the box and their front 7 gets consistently beat leaving him to clean up the mess. And why does he play so close to the line so often? It's because he's poor in coverage. Both of his interceptions were fluky. His 1st pick against Atlanta bounced off the receiver's hands where he was late to hep on a post route while in cover 1. His 2nd against Oakland he was late over the top in cover 2 and the pass deflected off the corner's helmet and into his hands. Those turnovers happen, but the consistent the,e was him being out of position in coverage.

You can point to stats and tackles all you want, but I let the tape tell me the story. He's a good in the box safety and is a major liability in coverage.

He is exhibiting..Still productive but its coming..If he has lost a step, It will happen quicker..

What tape, he hasnt played a full season in three years..You guys are not dealing with madden..I know what stats say, and where they lead..He is not the best safety in football anymore, He is not worth the investment, and seattle knows it.

My post was about Reshad Jones...

Trading for Thomas means you are trying to win RIGHT NOW. You are salvaging your future and cap space for a shot at winning a SB this or next year.

I don't think this team is in that position. It needs to keep putting together quality draft picks to stay relevant for years on down the road. The OL is not cheap anymore, that window is gone. 2nd round this draft is absolutely loaded with potential studs.

I'm 100% against Earl Thomas just because Garrett is still the coach and this team is not winning a SB with him.

The lone bright side of an Earl Thomas signing is him teaching the young DBs.

How about staying put and signing Earl Thomas as a FA next season rather than wasting a 2nd rounder this year? Sounds like a much better plan. Don't need to go all in on a superbowl this year.

Idn thatz their decision..They moving on..After looking at his stats its apparent to me. SOME times teams will duet to a player then use it as fodder to get them to renegotiate their contracts..

As it stands here and i like you digging into why, They are dumping contracts..Either they get something or they cut him..

Not even close--he is always around the ball and excels at making the big play. It's not going to happen so it doesn't matter.
