Trade idea

Since Bobby Carpenter is on the block, I was thinking about possible trade scenarios and though of this one:

Carpenter to the Vikings for receiver Troy Williamson

Two - to this point - disappointing #1 draft picks straight up for one another.

Would allow both teams to 'save face'

Would give both players fresh starts in schemes which may better suit them

Thoughts?

one problem: troy williamson catch catch a football.

Carpenter can't get on the field either so I figure that makes 'em even!

Just speculating on my part since things are slow.

wats the point in trading two "j.a.g.s"?

Neither team benefits.

Williamson not only cant catch if his life depended on it, but he was picked 11 picks higher so we'd take on a bigger contract

He was picked so high, I wonder if his cap hit would be too large.

They may not be able to give up on him quite yet, either.

It's not a bad idea, though, to try to find another team's lower first rounder that's been a disappointment.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was shooting for.

With Williamson, I think he's on the outs with Brad Childress and would most likely play out his rookie deal and move on.

I think Carpenter is on the outs as well for different reasons.

I thought a fresh start might do both players some good.

my cousin is a die hard vikings fan, he says to stay far far away from troy. He has worst vision then Julius

Carpenter is a good backup, a good Special Teams guy, and seems to be good in the locker room. I think the desire to jetison him already is premature.

No trade.

He has some problem with his eyes. They found it at the Nike institute, but then apparently did nothing about it.

The guy can fly, and he can get WIDE open. If only he could catch...

We've been blessed with a healthy linebacking corps for some time now (sans Ellis). If we were to have health issues at LB, I'm thinking many of the folks that are so eager to ship off Carpenter would be very upset if we did so.

That sounds like a great idea. A change of scenery could cure what ails him. After the season, we could have some of our talented posters create highlight videos much like these:
69 yd TD grab
Moving the sticks

Edit: Dangit, Muhast beat me to it but I did it with style.

Troy Williamson = drafting for need (and reaching big time)

Those clips are really bad, there's no denying it. But he is wide open in all of them. That's not a problem. He's just got an eye problem.

Still too early for giving up on Carpenter, though, and I don't think Minnesota has any need for LBs with Leber, Henderson and Greenway.

We don't owe Minnesota anything back from the Herschell Walker trade.

If we can find a team interested in Carpenter, I say make the trade. While I don't expect every 1st rounder to have an impact on their team right away, but with Carpenter, it's just hard to justify his salary vs. his contributions though. Even if we keep him and have him enter his third" season with us, he may still not have anymore impact for us than he does now, so if we have the option to trade him, do it, IMO.

I say this season, Dallas cuts down on underachieving players (i.e. Roy Williams) and Troy Williamson...Plus, let's face it, if it sounds like Roy Williams and it isn't the other Roy Williams then do you really want him? :laugh1:
