in the moment for that stretch. however moving forward and planning for the future the play speaks for itself and the leagues opinion of him speaks for itself.
You're not wrong, but ultimately the formula for this team for a few years now has been to allow 20 or fewer points. When the defense does that this team wins, when they dont they typically lose. Rush is a solid option to have come in and cover a few weeks with that formula. Yeah he doesnt give you much of a chance playing against a KC or SF in a shootout, but against 2/3rds of the league he give you a chance to win playing bus driver.

yeah, he's a great backup specifically for our team, and i'm a fan. the 4-1 extrapolating and constant harping is just overwrought

Jerry dropped a major turd with this costly trade move. This man just can't help himself from hurting the team.

SMDH. :banghead:

Now that Dak is signed, trade Lance to a QB starved team and at least recoup the draft capital we spent acquiring him.
There is no chance someone would give up a 4th rounder for him, and if a team is QB starved he isn't the guy they would be looking for to step in and take over the reins

Trade him to Carolina. He would be an upgrade to their QB who played yesterday.

Who are you trading Lance to at this point? You wont get anything for a 3rd string QB on a expiring deal and the team doesnt get a full offseason to work with him....especially at his salary.

With Dak resigning it just confirms every Jerry wasted a 4th round pick post since this trade happened.
Yep......He's a free agent after the season. I would consider resigning to a friendly backup deal for a couple more years ( $2-3M max ).

Lance directly cost Justin Rogers his position? I don't believe that. They could've gotten rid of one of the tight ends for him.
It doesn't matter which player or position. Bottom line, Lance is occupying a roster spot while he is absolutely useless to the team.

I mean you can say that about Rush too. They are kicking the tires on Lance. Do I think he's anything? No. But if they thought he had potential a few months ago they should feel the same way now. They've already invested a 4th rounder in him might as well see how far he can develop.

And we can get a decent comp pick for him. Because the contract he gets won't be cheap. He will get paid on potential.
Why, in the contemporary NFL, where teams have to devote significant compensation to their quarterback room, is any team going to offer anything above the minimum stipulated in the CBA for a quarterback that has done almost nothing in four years despite playing for playoff caliber teams?

In addition to not doing anything, he’s proven to be injury prone. Lance might be on a team’s practice squad next season. Most likely Dallas’.

The trade the 49ers made for Trey Lance will go down in the record books as one of the very worst in NFL history. Certainly a top 10 bad move.

This is a trade that happens during cuts if anything. Nobody is giving you a single pick today for a QB that isn't good, with that contract, & on the last year. If a team wants needs a QB bc their starter goes down then they'll be looking for Dobbs. Not a guy that's marginally better then what they have now....if even that.
The contract is all he’s got going for him. He’s only owed $48,000 per game for the balance of the season. The Cowboys paid him $4.5 million on the 5th day of training camp. That’s water under the bridge, now. On March 12 he’s a free agent.

Every team saw his tape this preseason. The only value he had was the "unknown" if SF was just a fluke and he was better than what he showed. Every team now knows he is terrible. Not even a desperate team would bring him in. And some teams are now looking for QBs i.e. Packers. The time to have gotten anything was months ago. Dallas took a chance and struck out. SF laughed to the bank even getting what they got for him. He won't be in the league much longer.
