True but at least they knew when to cut bait and move on. Some teams hang on to these high draft picks because they seem obligated. Especially if they gave up a lot to get him. You see it a lot. Front offices lean hard on these coaches to play these guys they went out and signed, drafted, traded for. Even though the players aren't good. SF saw Lance and knew he was never going to cut it. He got hurt and never won his job back. Doubt he would keep it long even if he stayed healthy. He was very bad. SF never really lost a step on this draft blunder. These kinds of moves can cripple a franchise for years. The trade the 49ers made for Trey Lance will go down in the record books as one of the very worst in NFL history. Certainly a top 10 bad move.
SF is very proactive in their QB situation. Even though Jimmy G got to a Super Bowl, they knew he wasn't that good and desperate need for an upgrade. This is why they went out of their way to get Lance. Jimmy G is a bum who was carried by the rest of his team. They were proactive when they saw Lance was not good. Now, a guy they drafted with the last pick of the whole draft, is most likely going to be their guy for the next decade plus and they still have room to sign their other cornerstones. I envy front offices who can wheel and deal like them. Eagles are the same way.
