I think Gurode was an Academic All American at Colorado- do know he was considered a real student not just a football player. But those kinds of smarts do not always translate to the football field.

If Jerry wouldnt have pushed for Garrett to let go of play calling he wouldnt have And would've gotten fired with more results that Garrett was getting

I thought it was Jerry's philosophy that head coaches also needed to call plays and that he insisted that Garrett do so.

If the Cowboys break out of their 8-8 doldrums, if the team posts its first winning season since 2009, owner Jerry Jones concedes his insistence that Jason Garrett call the plays in addition to being the head coach may not have been the best move.
......
“I felt that when he did become the head coach, the head coach being the coordinator on one side of the ball or the other (was best for the team),’’ Jones said. “I’ve said that, and I got that really as much as anybody from Joe Gibbs.

“But we’ve got a game today that has expanded the scope of things to concentrate on. It’s just more than it was in years past, and we’ll benefit from that (Garrett being freed up).

“The answer is, if it works and we break out of this 8-8 cycle on a positive basis, then I will wish that we’d have done it a couple of years earlier.’’

http://cowboysblog.***BANNED-URL***...ears-earlier-if-cowboys-break-8-8-cycle.html/

Now it could be that Garrett, once he had play calling duties, didn't want to relinquish it. However, I have never read anything to suggest that. At least, nothing with credible evidence.

I was happy with the 1st round pick because we were able to add T. Williams in the 3rd round. A speedy WR who can develop into a #2 eventually.

I do not recall Gurode being an Academic All American, he might have been, I don't know.

He was on something called the Academic Starter Team. Have no idea what that is though.

Tell me Fred doesn't look like an All Madden Team Center.
Again, he was up against a backup. He did well against him as he should.

As he should? Why? He was completely unproven at this level. I think his play last night merits a huge sigh of relief.

Mentally lazy. He was up against Paul Soliai initially.

He's their former franchise player and their starter.

you mean other then Jerry and Callahan basically confirming it in their own interviews, and then Garrett saying that nothing has been decided. You need more credible evidence?

leary looked great but I want to see him against pressure up the middle. the dolphins defense brought no pressure last night. Fredrick is a center. I hope we do not have to move him guard. I think would play well but not as good as a center. arkin looked better this year then last year so far. just have to see how he looks again Friday against Oakland. I also thought costa looked ok. the backup tackles are a joke. we need parnell to get healthy

You mean Jerry and Callahan said something about or otherwise insinuated how Garrett didn't want to give up play calling duties? I would appreciate it if you can tell me where I can find those interviews.

How does Garrett saying nothing has been decided "credible" evidence that he was battling management to keep play calling duties?

The way Frederick has played so far you can understand why Jerry Jones said he was the "Last of the Mohicans" and he wasn't willing to trade down again and risk losing out on him. You have to give Jerry props for making that call.

No Jerry and Callahan both confirmed Callahan was going to call plays. And in Garretts PC the very next day refused to confirm it. Made him look dumb IMO. Like a little kid when you take away his favorite toy. But Jerry did him a favor. If anybody believes it was his choice to give up playcalling duties ur seriously not into this team. And i know u know what im talking about in terms of credible sources. If you dont deem Jerry and Callahan credible then you have no business in this conversation.

Lol at taking one line out of my post...context is generally important bud ;)

Combine his work ethic, mental abilities, and physical attributes that he has, then it's usually a recipe for success.

Tell me how many engineering double majors are all-American football players. I bet there hasn't been more than a handful in the past decade.

I can't imagine what he can accomplish focusing all his time on his game.

Sorry, it just sounds funny. Yes, yes, of course...along with work ethic and physical abilities, being a very good college Center. Those sorts of things. But it's the engineering degree that really puts him over the top.

Players im sure get irritated at fans that say something like this. Everytime they suit up its a real game. I think this is the difference between a athlete and a non athlete. The way of thinking.

I don't believe the players care one way or another. You assume they read what we as fans say or hear them on the radio.

Was it a real game for Romo, Ware and others that sat out?

Did Frederick face the 1st team players he would in a game that counts?

I imagine players see this as a practice game. The ones trying to win a spot try hard. The ones standing watching spend their time sweating and joking.

These pre-season games are like Whose Line Is It Anyway. The points don't count.
I am just a little more cautious and want a larger sample size before I get out the crown.

Yeah, that wasn't the reason he didn't want to confirm it. But believe what you want.

Where did you get Williams? Sylvester Williams was rated 33rd on their board. Frederick was 22. Floyd, Werner, Eifert, Pugh, Frederick, and Reid were the top guys left on the board when they traded down. Along with Rhodes, Patterson, Hopkins, T Williams, and Escobar which were lesser needs.

Based on reactions in the war room when Williams went off the board. Williams also fits the scheme and if the board was everything then we would have just taken Floyd.

I could be wrong of course, but it's way more reasonable than what every journalist wrote suggesting that we were sliding down to take Floyd and another pick. If Floyd was the pick then the value based on the board was already there.

Miami was missing several players from their DL. You better watch it with who you call mentally lazy.
