Travis Frederick at LG?

If Costa truly is one of the top 5 OL then he should have no problem winning one of the OG positions. Clearly Frederick is the guy the Cowboys want to play C, since that is the only position he has taken snaps at. If they wanted him to play G there would have been no better time to get him some reps there.

Also, this will allow costa to focus solely on blocking...and not that pesky shotgun snap.

He's a natural C. You maximize his potential playing C. And the Cowboys have absolutely zero talent at that position right now.

I am not so convinced that LG is a good fit for Fredrick. He is strong with the forward push but he is far from agile in his lateral movement. He does not pull well. I think that LG would be the wrong spot for him but I guess we'll see.

I think he could play all three interior positions and probably could have been a RT if he was groomed as such.

I'm for working your scheme around the talent you can assemble. Frederick does enough things well that any OL coach worth their own salt should be able to use him at multiple spots. I just believe C is his best position.

I think he could be a RG, I don't know about LG though.

well i'd be hard pressed to deny having the best people at the best positions is a bad thing, so you have a valid point there. i just think we drafted frederick to be our C for the next 10+ years and barring some wild turn of events, i think that's what will happen.

I agree and I hope he does as well, but for the short term I am not against a Smith,Fred,Costa,Leary,Free/Parnell line if that is in fact the best 5 guys. Obviously they've seen something on Costa to give him his extension. Now maybe they are not ready to move Costa to OG yet and want to see how Leary plays out? I can see them going with this line until they can upgrade the other O/G spot next year with a 2nd rd pick or a FA if Leary becomes a staple on the line then moving Costa to a serviceable backup at O/C for the next 5 years. That would make the most sense to me.

If everyone is for starting Fred at C because that's his natural position, then why are people happy with Smith at LT? He's played RT his entire life and rated as one of the top RTs his rookie season. He was below average at LT last season. I'm just using the Fred at C argument.

I think the idea is that LT *was* the natural position for Smith in the NFL. Even though they gave him a year to prepare for the switch, physically, he was too good a fit for the LT spot--which is harder to fill for a right handed QB. So, really it's the same principle at play with Frederick.

This statement-even though it represents the opinion of more than one cowboys fan-is so ignorant and asinine that I'm ashamed it evoked a response from me.
