Trey Lance: Bad trades for SF and Dallas?

The chance of fourth rounder being a starter is around 20%. So in the grand scheme of things, taking a fourth round flyer on an overpaid-for first rounder, actually graded high second rounder, is low risk, high reward.
The Cowboys are not very good. Some teams can take “a fourth round flyer” on players that are not doing well in the NFL. Dallas isn’t one of them.

You must like Jerry math.

If he had actually evaluated the player, after the draft or asked his scouts, he'd his trade never would have happened. At least not for a 4th. Maybe a 6th at best.
The team rated Lance as a high second round draft pick the year he was drafted.

Jerry will continue to keep him around to develop so that either we trade him for a 4th or better, or could take over once Dak is gone.

I think this is Jones' plan also. The question is how committed is his plan in re-signing Lance before or after he enters the 2025 free agent market. And I would not be surprised if Jones is banking on Lance giving him an unspoken discount, given that Jones 'saved' him from his 49ers situation.

I blame Jerry for a lot of things. But the Lance trade really wasn't that bad.

There was a chance that Lance would eventually prove to be the player the 49ers thought he would be. Then the Cowboys could have either kept him (as a cheaper Dak successor) or trade him for more than the 4th round pick they gave up.

It was a swing and a miss for both teams. It happens. But at the cost of a 4th round pick (in other words, another Josh Ball or Viliami Fehoku) Lance was worth a shot. Just like Jonathan Mingo now.

That is exactly what hat happened.
I don't think his hat had anything to do with it !

I still dont get your Lance hatred.. he got your boy paid.. you should be thanking him.

I honestly think Jerry was thinking of letting Dak play out his contract and had Lance as his fall back.

Lance threw 5 ints.. Jerry crapped his pants and caved to Dak's demands.

I dont blame Dak for getting his money.. I blame Jerry.. and agreeing to a no trade clause again shows how inept he really is.

I don't get why you like crappy players on our team that never have a chance to actually play in a game.

The Cowboys traded two 4’s one for an emergency Qb not the back up but the emergency Qb and if that’s not enough the owner throws another 4 out the window for a WR that you could have waited until the 25 draft and taken a WR.

I’m not not sure the SF window has closed either . It’s called injuries . They will reload in 25 and could easily take that division again . Heck at 6-7 they are only 2 games behind Seattle right now .

Well the WR has actually played on the field.

He is not learning how to run routes and catch the football.

I watched a little Carolina Philly and you had Adam Thielen catching everything thrown his way then an inconsistent rookie opposite him in Leggette who couldn’t catch a beautiful TD thrown to him by Bryce Young that would have won the game .

A former second rounder for them in Mingo must have really disappointed them to ship him out for a 4 .

So many with an agenda…

Lance had an amazing camp and preseason.

should we be starting Lance right now?

probably.

but the team still has less than a 1% chance at the last wild card slot.

they want to sign Lance also.

we’ll see him start eventually.

I think Lance has potential considering his physical football playing attributes. Some talented inexperienced quarterbacks just need more coaching and reps than others to become a quality starter. The 9rs did not want to lose their winning momentum with Project Lance and the Cowboys overcommitted on Dak contractually.

you really think he had an amazing preseason? You really still expect him to be a DC starter some day?
