Trey Lance, Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix, Bo Nix

I see what ur doing: If not Lance, then who genius?

But we have to approach this like a physician, not do something harmful just for the sake of doing SOMETHING, and remember the hypocratic oath:

First, do no ham

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having Lance as the backup on a reasonable 2 year deal.

Even though this isn’t true let’s go with your silly *** logic. Do whoever facts the 32nd worst pass defense is clearly all pro this year right? Bet you don’t even know who faced the 32nd worst pass defense do you lol?
Man, if anyone has proven he doesn’t know how logic works by his own words, it’s you.

The best thing for Lance is to come back for another year in Dallas and be the backup for Dak. The kid seemed improved from when he was with San Francisco. Would love to see an offense tailored to his talents but he looked solid vs a playoff team in Washington without CeeDee.
What are we, inquisitive lad, a training ground for NFL projects?

I just read this tidbit in this article.

“ Lance is only about seven months older than Washington rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. He's a day younger than Atlanta's Michael Penix and two months or so younger than Bo Nix in Denver.”

I’ve been on the fence about writing him off but this certainly puts things in perspective. Add this to the Darnold resurrection and we sometimes can be too quick to sunset these guys.

He needs a lot of game time experience to really know what he is. I wish there was a G league equivalent for the NFL. Just musing, but I wonder what the precedence is of a team loaning a player to the UFL during the summer.

A better comparison would be Paxton Lynch, Carson Wentz, Brandon Weeden, and Alex Tanney, QBs w/ huge athletic traits and athleticism that come from nothing schools. The huge majority of them do not work out.

Those seem fair. There's a good chance that he'll never work out, either. I just think he's had so much less opportunity than even those guys to get the game figured out that he needs to seek out playing time wherever he can find it. I mean, this was his fifth NFL start. It's tough to develop with that little playing time on top of just playing in 19 games in college.

Not really. Lance has had many off seasons and training camps. The rookies hasn't . That's a huge difference
You would think so, but not. You’re not gonna get haze in the locker room, but you’re still not playing with the first string.

Just because someone didn't get to play with the first string all the time doesn't make someone who's been in the league for 4 years a rookie.
If that was the case, might as well call Cooper Rush a rookie.

You left out Josh Allen.

No one thought the guy who calls him Trance would be. It would be like MountaineerCowboy being impressed with Dak, even for a moment. Fans with soapboxes love to stand on them at every opportunity.
The irony is this person was more "tranced" about lance than ANYone else.

No...not a rookie. But a bit harder to judge the skills. Give him some time with the best and see if he can meet "potential".

I think it's really funny that people are bad mouthing Lance. Some are saying he isn't an NFL qb when he just outplayed the NFL rookie of the year who was the 2nd pick in the draft.

When it was so EASY to pull for the kid. As a Cowboys fan, why WOULDN'T you want to do that?

I get that we have more favorite players than others...but...There had to be something going on with this other person...it would get weird sometimes.

Harder to judge for us fans but not for the coaches. You can say whatever you want about MM but one thing he is known for and respected by many is developing QBs.
For MM to play Rush over Lance when his job was on the line should tell you Lance has ways to go just to be a backup NFL QB. Unless he improves significantly, he would still be the 3rd QB next year.
It's not just the money (Cap) spent for keeping a 3rd QB but more importantly, he would be taking up a roster spot. That can be huge if we are hit with another season with multiple injuries.

Clearance said that Lance would have played earlier if he signed the new contract that they offered him several weeks ago.

He didn't outplay the backup they put in for that second-round pick, so let's not get carried away. Some go too far to criticize and others to praise. Daniels didn't have a good game, and our defensive pressure had a lot to do with that. Pressure is the great equalizer.

Lance needs to play more for us to know if he can be a quality backup, much less a starter. The game was a good start for him. He made some good throws, some questionable decisions and some bad throws. That's what I'd expect of a QB who just hasn't played much.
