Trey Lance vs Jordan Love

Watch the first year highlight tape for Lance. He's built really nice, very athletic, and has a good arm. You can see the flashes. And he's still only 23. A year learning from QB guru McCarthy may have helped him progress in his development the way Dak did (although Dak doesn't have the mental makeup for the big games)......

I'm fine moving on from Dak if we get a haul. Not cutting him, that is dumb.

Lamar Jackson won an MVP with a mediocre supporting cast. His #1 RB was a washed up RB Michael Ingram from the Saints, and none of his receivers reached 50 catches. Some how he managed to throw 36 TDs.

Dak is unable to carry the team without a super team around him.

I will say that I admire the Ravens organization for how they've built their teams over the years and if Jerry built big physical teams with good defenses then the Cowboys wouldn't need an elite QB to win. The way Jerry builds team you have to have a non-choking elite QB.

Here's another. Threaten to cut unless he agrees to a sign and trade. Whomever trades for him will have to negotiate the contract together without the Cowboys, plus they have to give up a 1st round pick. A lot of smart OCs out there think they can turn water into wine.

Isn’t it funny how much that happened to our defense this year? GB offensive coordinator spent his time watching film and exploited it. Yet, opposing defenses blanket our receivers. McCarthy did a terrible job of scheming receivers open when it seems like everyone else in the league can do it on the regular.

Oh common, Love was behind Aaron Rodgers for 4 years. He never had a chance to play before this year. Lance had his shot but couldn’t stay healthy and then got beat out by Sam Darnold for a backup QB job.

I spent some time lurking the 49ers board when the trade for lance happened and apparently many of the camp attendees claimed that Darnold did not beat Lance out at all. In fact it was more about coaches favorites and Lance was odd man out. Many of their fans who attended camp claimed that he had a solid camp and lit it up and were pissed that the team traded him to the cowboys. Again this is just hearsay from the 49ers board.

Lance needs game action in the worst way possible. I don't know how much you can learn in 5 years of studying on the sidelines, but he's probably reached that limit.

This is his 3rd year in the league. He need live action reps. The decision to trade for Lance wasn't about replacing Cooper Rush who has shown he can hold the fort but it was about the possibility of moving on from Dak.

Doubt we pay Dak 50M to be his average self when it matters, 3M for Rush to be the backup, and $4M for Lance to hold a clip board.

Guess I could have added that I knew the cut part but I assumed that was understood.

From the way I understand it, the problem with either a post Jun 1st trade or cut is that Dak will count like $35 million against the cap this year and then another $30+ million in 2025. Or eat the whole $60+ million with a cut or trade in 2024 before Jun 1st. That seems to be a no win situation for the Cowboys unless they were able to get a significant draft haul for him in a trade. What are the odds of that at this point?

Love had been terrible up until 2 months ago. Something might have clicked for him. I don’t see where Lance had an opportunity to click yet.

Also, I think Dallas has to cut Dak if they plan to move on from him.

That's the problem with Dallas. We fall for the guys who seemingly give us a quick win but stink when it comes to the last 5% but fail to do the ground work first.

Why not give Lance a try even if it ends in a catastrophic first season? Use the time to build the squad, draft more QBs and see if it clicks.

Trey probably wasn't a good fit in SF system. But many said Trey didnt get a fair shot. Maybe due the fact SF offense gravitated, stabilize and flourish under Purdy. This preseason and TC might be interesting.
