Trimming the roster

I didn't say they were high on him. I said that it is silly for a fan to try to evaluate Weems ability when we as fans have barely seen him and that was 2 years ago.

They obviously see Chaz Green as a possibility at both Guard and Tackle. Many of his OTA practice snaps were at Guard. In the 7th round they are just looking for talent when they drafted Gibson. You don't really make need picks in the 7th round.

Green wasn't drafted to play guard. Only reason he is there is because Collins might end up at tackle. Replacing Weems isn't about need, but it does say how much they think about him.

I don't think that, respectively, is correct BK. His revenue this year is all dead space should he be cut. See spotrac for his contract details.

..................Cap Hit if kept
2015.................12.7m
2016.................13.8m

...................Cap Hit if cut now
2015...................4.7m
2016...................7.4m(if they rolled over the 8m saved from 2015 this hit will be negated)

...................Cap Hit if cut in 2016
2015...................12.7m
2016....................4.7m
2017....................2.7m

As of draft time, their primary decision regarding OL was to draft Green. A 7th round pick for Gibson is not really relevant information. They signed Collins because they could, but it was not part of a plan.

As of this minute, Green has practiced as much or more at Guard as compared to Tackle.

There is no obvious answer to what they had planned in regards to Weems based on the information that we had as of right now.

First they drafted Green in the 3rd round, clearly not secure with Weems as the swing tackle. This can not be disputed.

Green has practiced as much at guard as he has at tackle? Source? And even if it were true only would be the case because we have Collins out there which can't be ignored.

They drafted a guy that can play Guard or Tackle in the 3rd round. It really proves nothing. They might be planning to release Weems tomorrow or they might really like his upside and see him making the 53. There is no way to know at this point. Draft a Guard/Tackle in the 3rd round does not prove anything.

Again, nothing to indicate that he was ever meant to play guard when he was drafted.

Thanks for the roster breakdown, Mick.

We just have too much talent to cut down to 53. Maybe we can petition the league or something.

Because after all, when you have a career back up like Bernadeau and a 3rd round reach like Chaz Green as backups, it's just ridiculous.

Excited to watch the evolution of Geoff Swaim and comforted in knowing Dustin Vaughn has plenty of time to develop thanks to Brandon Weeden.
Right on que.

There is not a clear cut answer to that one.

Romo was #2 the first 6 games of his 2nd season (2004). Then they switched to Drew Henson as the #2. In 2005 Romo had clearly surpassed Henson and Romo was the clear cut #2 QB.

If Romo was ahead of Henson at the beginning of 2004 and at the beginning of 2005, then my guess is that he was ahead of Henson in the minds of most coaches for all of 2004 but Jerry had traded a 3rd for Henson and likely pressured Parcells to give Henson a shot in the 2nd half of 2004.

Ah, that's interesting. That actually makes a lot of sense. Definitely wouldn't put it past Jerry (at least back then) to "insist" that the QB he traded for be higher on the depth chart.

Didn't we also have Ryan Leaf around this time as well? Or maybe those early 2000s years just mash together in my mind lol.

Considering that two of the four RBs on the roster have serious injury histories , there better be a back-up an. Then there is the underwear thief that could end up in hot water every time he goes shopping. Dunbar sure as heck can't carry the load. All of this has to be considered and planned for.

the underwear thief=:lmao:

Leaf was with the Cowboys in 2001. Romo's rookie year was 2003.

Carr will not be released this year. He's a 12+M cap and deadspace hit this year. Next year he will cost 7+M in dead space. Best to hope he averages more INTs than ever before (4 max) and sets personal records for passes defended.

These numbers remind me just how bad of a signing Carr really was. I am depressed even more after reading this. Thanks Rob. You had to have your CBs.

While he probably will stay at CB IMO he should be used as a S in SPs.

His 1st ever snaps with the Cowboys was at Guard.

The Cowboys have said many times they like players with position flex. They said it when the drafted Martin and they said it when they drafted Jones. They said it about the LBs Hitchens and Wilson. They said it about Lawrence in terms of Weak Side and Strong Side.

Not sure where you got that from.

Since it is after June 1st, if he is cut this year the cap hit will only be 4.7m

If he's cut post Jun 1 you save 8M in dead space this year to move it to next year. You save less than 600k overall. Carr has the leverage. Jerry screwed the pooch on that contract and restructure.

8m in cap space is not insignificant. We have less than 4m in space right now for the rest of the offseason and season.

Carr has no leverage. He won't get more than 3-4m on the open market.

Dallas could wait until after TC to cut him and really make it hard to find another job.

Saving 600k is much better than paying 26.5m the next 2 years.

You save all of his 8M base salary if he is cut.

Any leverage that Carr does or does not have is based on what other teams would pay him.
