I am about to learn something. I have never heard of this.

In spite of Mel Renfro initial success as a defensive back, he still had a desire to play on offense. Dallas fans and writers organized the "MOO Club," an acronym for "Mel on Offense." So Landry decided to give Mel a try on the offensive unit. During the off-season, he redesigned parts of his offensive playbook to take better advantage of Renfro's speed.

But Renfro's venture as an NFL running back in 1966 was short-lived. He injured an ankle in his first game. By the time the ankle healed, Landry had moved Mel back to defense. In his short stint, he rushed eight times for 52 yards and caught four passes for 65 yards.

Thank you. I had never heard of this. Much appreciation for the explanation.

I still haven't heard what the guy thought was wrong with the helmet though.
Sorry, it was was answered: the star doesn't have the blue outline. I think that star was used for maybe two seasons, 1964-65. I'm pretty sure that by 1966 the star had the blue outline that we are familiar with.

Fred, did you see the posts about the picture you posted of Don Perkins against the Vikings. I nailed the exact day of that picture for you.
Hos, I recall posting that picture, and I think I asked something about the date, but I can't find the thread . . . :(

By george, you're right! And they probably went from three stripes on the sleeves & socks to two also in 1967?

Yes sir, they sure did. I would like to collaborate with someone to create a proper evolution of the Dallas uniform some day. Every change from stripes, to colors, to jerseys, to helmets. The problem is I need serious help because I suck at graphics.
