I wasn't suggesting whether you should sympathize or not. My very first post said she and her mother should've handled things differently before it got this far.
It's pretty obvious she got bad info either from a commander or someone in her family, because the article clearly said they wouldn't have forced her to deploy if she didn't have adequate child care.
What was also said was that she still should have showed up and explained her situation. From what I read, they have programs in place to help single parents in just this situation. This is not an automatic discharge type of situation, but it will get resolved...like Zrin said with the best interest of the child in mind.
