Tropical Storm / Hurricane Harvey

If the script holds, the worst from this will be in a day or two due to it being semi-stationary but still dumping rain.
Yikes

We are sure hoping that doesn't happen, but I know that chances are it will. We had 6 inches of intense, scary thunderstorms with crazy wind gusts and tornado warnings all day .....and still now we are getting momentary strong gusts and rain. The worst of this initial storm is behind us, except to our east they are still getting hammered. Tomorrow and the following days bring their own story, unfortunately. Our property is completely under water, don't know how much more we can withstand. Luckily we didn't have any damage, except for a few downed medium branches and a bunch of fallen Spanish Moss, lol. Hopefully the rain will not be as bad as they predicted. We have lots of friends in the area who live real close to nearby rivers. So scared for them. :(

A tornado did touch down in Sargent today, which is about 15 or 20 minutes to our south, and it flipped over RVs and ripped off a roof. There was another place somewhere in all of this that a car dealer or something had their roof collapse into the building. It was briefly reported in all the mayhem on one of the channels I was watching. Tomorrow will drop our jaws with the images ole Harvey is leaving in his wake.

The guy keeps screaming annoyingly obvious things .. I can just imagine him being out in the sun and screaming, "OH GOD! IT'S SO SUNNY! THE SUN! THE SUN! IT'S BRIGHT! IT'S HOT! THE SUN!"

Yea, the media really likes to dramatize things. There is this guy on FNC acting like he is in a 3-pt stance fighting the winds..........while two guys walked past him normally in the background :lmao2:

Watch the footage of the first eyewall and tell me that you wouldn't have your adrenaline pumping. As he explains he got hit by a twister when the wall hit and it blew the top off of the building that he was in.

He's sitting through the fury of a a category 4 hurricane and you want him to be calm cool and collected?

I watched several of the videos while working and while I agree, sometimes the excitement and fear can make you raise your voice, he was annoyingly excessive at it. Most people would only raise their voice when something special, different or unexpected happens in those situations. He kept doing it constantly for the same thing over and over. It was clear he was trying to make a bigger deal out of it because he referenced how his videos had broken the periscope record for something.

He sat through 90-140 mph winds for several hours and you expect him to be calm and collected. That seems unreasonable.

The things that he kept on going over and over about were the roof above him shearing and then exploding straight up, the concern over debris flying by at 100 mph and finding a safe spot to ride the storm out from. He is literally in a life and death situation.

I recommend turning the volume down.

He was very excessive about it even when the moment didn't call for it, which is my point. When something happens, or flies by, or something scares him, I would fully expect him to raise his voice due to adrenaline, and I could also understand if there's a little lag of excitement right after an event like that. However, it was very obvious he was exaggerating him excitement several times as the situation didn't warrant it and he was very repetitive with his exclamations and declarations. The rest of his videos were fine, but he was definitely playing to the audience by over reacting even when there was no reason to do so. There's no question about that at all in my mind.

Hurricane strength winds were omnipresent. You are literally complaining about him be excitable and hypervigilant when the eye of a category 4 hurricane is a few miles away and coming right at him.

It would be like being in the middle of a firefight in combat and expecting your squadmates to be calm when the enemy shifts their fire from your position. He rode out the eye of a category 4 storm and you think that is comparable to a woman in raft in shallow water.

Meanwhile, Corpus Christi, Padre Island, Victoria and the surrounding areas are weathering the fiercest storm they have seen in 50 years.

Please don't pull your normal stunts by changing the argument in an effort to make yourself sound noble. Seriously .. comparing a combat firefight to a hurricane? The hurricane's not trying to kill you. It's not like mean old Harvey is thinking, "Hey, let me throw some stuff at that idiot who stayed behind and see if I can kill him."

No one is questioning the power and danger of the storm. This is not some innocent guy caught up in the storm just hoping to survive his worst nightmare. This is a guy who CHOSE to be in this storm, then not only acts surprised that it's windy and things are falling and flying around, he goes out of his way to make it seem like everything is blowing up over and over even when there's no immediate reason to do so.

The fact that he promoted how his video was the most watched on periscope in some category validates what I'm saying. This was a poor man's "reality TV show" following the same script and strategies they use. Like I said, some of the times he raised his voice was justified and there is no doubt his adrenaline was flowing, but it was VERY obvious at times he was embellishing and over reacting to just make his video seem that much more extreme. I wouldn't even be surprised if afterwards he starts shopping his videos to media to use for a nominal licensing fee because we all know the media loves them some screaming idiots in bad weather.

What are you talking about? You are the one making the argument that he is not genuine in his reactions. I am arguing that. I am talking about the situation and how people normally act in those types of situations. And further what part of that post made it about me? I speak in declarations as it is compelling rhetoric. That does not make mean I am "trying to sound noble." I am trying to make a compelling argument. I don't see why you feel the need to make it personal.

Frankly, I don't see how you can claim my analogy is invalid when you compared Harvey to the raft lady. Jeff actually was in a major hurricane; raft lady was not in a flood. That the Hurricane is not a sentient being trying to kill him is besides the point. There are very few situations that have similar omnipresent danger like that. The long term omnipresent danger is the common thread. People in life and death situations that last for hours are not typically calm. He was in one and while he chose to be there, the last time something like this happened was a decade ago.

And you obviously missed the part where he showed the devastation around him before he moved on to the WalMart while he was in the eye. The house in front of him had collapsed and blown apart, the steel building behind him had become twisted metal, and the cinderblock wall on the passenger side of his van had collapsed. He then showed the tree line where his description of them looking like a lawnmower had gone at them was apt. That was from the omnipresent wind shear and debris I keep referencing that you gloss over like it is inconsequential.

And while it may seem obvious to you all you can come up with to support it being so is that he mentioned periscope informed him that he had broken a record. That his views are important to him is a result of him being a journalist. That doesn't make him disingenuous.

Further while he was in the eye, it was obvious that he was calming down. He described being punchy --he was-- and then was very calm explaining how they were orienting themselves outside the building and clearing debris. The other stormchaser that was with him was even more amped up than he was. Whent he stormwall approach he started getting amped up again. All that seems quite natural to me.

I've made my points. As I said, of course there were going to be times where his emotional exclamations were genuine and I do not question that. What I question is the timing of several of his outbursts and the massive repetitiveness that he employed in an effort to make his stream much more popular. I give him credit .. his reality tv script approach worked great as he reminded people how popular his stream was .. you know .. while this was going on. His streams were entertaining though so thanks for sharing them. Fortunately, there were other streams without the acting and excessively unnecessary screaming to watch as well.

Now feel free to have the last word on this. I had some free time to kill last night and since you seemed to be in full "Fuzzy" mode, I figured I'd have some fun with you. Have fun!

:lmao: and that was why you got up in arms about me trying to "sound noble?" What exactly are you trying to get at with this "Fuzzy" mode accusation? Perhaps that aforementioned was just some insight on "Reality" mode and how you parse things. You really do seem intent on making it personal when all I was trying to do was talk about the situation he was in and how people normally act in those situations. You avoid that like the plague.

I'll take the last word. You have no basis for what you are claiming.

Meanwhile he was taking a category 4 storm with 140 mph hour winds to the face.

He told people about periscope tweeting him during the eye of the storm, when he was not carrying on like you are accusing him of. That was after he had repositioned himself and situated he and the people that were with him. The eye was over him for over an hour.

Personally, I just hope that he is okay. He took the strongest storm to occur in the US in 12 years right to the face and was going through the backend when services went out.
